Question about dedicated servers
So I'm thinking about starting one. Could I make a current world of mine into a dedicated server or would I have to make a new one completely? Thanks for advance.

Well to begin with how are you hosting your server? Is it your machine or a 3rd party?

My computer and I don't have set for use until I'm on. It's a world for me and my buddy. I want to set up to where he can get on that said world when I'm not on. Well to begin with how are you hosting your server? Is it your machine or a 3rd party?

Here’s a good tutorial it’s confusing because it uses the destination of the world file to YOUR OWN local worlds file unlike many many other dedicated servers which have thier own directory for the world file so you just need to change the name in the BAT file to your world name

I'm gonna have to get clear cut instructions on it. Got no clue what I'm doing. Like square goes in the square type of help. Not stupid just completely clueless.

Yes, you are able to use your current world. Just use the command line to point to the world file, something like I have for my world:
valheim_server -nographics -batchmode -name "Veizlaheimr" -port 2456 -world "Veizlaheimr" -password "*******" -crossplay -savedir "D:\Dedicated Server\Valheim\Veizlaheimr\Worlds"

You can definitely do it. How you do it depends on the server that you're running. If you're running your own server, you just move the .db and .fwl file from your local worlds_local directory to the worlds_local on your server.
I do it fairly often to both backup my worlds and to sometime try out new things on a "practice" local server.
