Fenris Armor and Flesh Rippers versus silver...

Trying this game again after a year...

I have fully max'ed iron armour and an iron mace and am now exploring the mountains. Last time I played, I'd upgrade to silver armour and Frostner. And that bow. It made sense: silver armour stats are better than the iron armour.

But I see there is this new Fenris Armour and Flesh Rippers. The stats look a bit meh... I like new content, but there is a limit...

Is it worth getting the Fenris set and Flesh Rippers?

Hey those Flesh Rippers are not bad at all. I'm using them in the plains against Furlings and the two hit combo is a real advantage. Better than the stats indicate.

I thought you didn't get the speed bonus unless you used the whole set?

Fenris is good for exploring, but not delving into caves etc as that's got limited room to move.

imo it's by far the most difficult to craft, due to the very finite materials. I've been in....a lot of caves, but getting to upgrade to highest tier is a silly amount of hair.

Ores can be a pain, but at least finding them in quantity is reasonably easy. The others (root, troll etc) at least come from infinate sources.

I feel the highers tiers of Fenris armour should go up more in protection.
full fenris set gives a lot of fire resist
each single parts gives 3% speed , and chest cold resist + 3% speed

The flesh rippers are pretty fun. You can one shot kill dwarves with a kick in the sack, which alone is worth it. They are poor at blocking, so if you are used to relying on a shield, they are maybe not for you. Being higher level weapons, they actually work on the swamp and below enemy even though they are slash weapons, just like a black steel sword can tear up the swamp guys.

the armor is not good enough at defense to use if you get hit much. If you avoid being hit most of the time, it could be fun.

The new content also offers a bit of decoration and something new to do for a while, though after 5 or so frost caves you will probably tire of it.

It's worth getting, my current load out I use the padded helm and chest with fenris leggings, this still gives me 84 armor (down from 100 with full padded) but my movement speed is only minus 2 (up from minus 10)

And if you need to travel long distance, full fenris is amazing

Also, flesh rippers are decent weapons, they don't slow your speed when drawn, and every second punch is a "combo finish" and does double damage, they hit much harder then you would think, the x6 backstab is just gravy ;D

the caves are pretty comfy and easy, until you get dogpiled(pfft) by a bunch of cultists. Silver armor and some healing potions are recommended to power through the worst case fights.

Fortunately silver is relatively pretty easy to harvest. Hunt around for a vein, dig under it, and pop it all at once for the dopamine rush. The bonus of digging deep is that it keeps most of the enemy spawns away, trying to dig from the surface can lead to nasty ambushes.

Almost died again. Fenris armor and flesh rippers don't help much when getting rushed by multiple cultists and those werewolves in the mountains...

I suspect my iron armour and weapons/shield are just as effective, if not better. And then there is silver armor.

Maybe it'll get easier in the open plains... Anyway I think Fenris armor and flesh rippers are good for advanced players who want a challenge, but new players should never pick this over silver armor... Looks good though

Run speed is amazing for exploration and staying away from enemies. For deep dives, heavy armor is king. Armor is generally extremely high value and also reduces damage from DoTs in this version, so it pays to have high armor.

At the very minimum, try the pants. All the other leg bonuses suck, and going from -5% run speed to +3% is very nice. The chest piece competes with pierce resistance from root armor, so that's up to preference. Heavy helmets have no speed penalty so +3% speed at a huge armor penalty is a heavy trade.

The fire resistance bonus isn't terribly meaningful when high armor also protects from fire damage. Fire resist is also available as a potion discovered in the plains

It could be if you're a collector and like to have all available armour and weapons around to show off...... :)

yeap fenris set its so good , that speed buff is very noticeable , for me now its the best set for be a scout/archer/dagger , enemies have not a chance to get you
Best combo is fenris pants and chest + heavy top helmet ( silver or padded ) , root chest is not good for fire attacks from plains , countering the fire resist mead

If you like to be full parry and tanky go for silver n padded in plains

About flesh rippers , its kindameh weapon because their animation is the same as unarmed and used this as skill damage , but its freaking cheap ( 18 silver to make it lvl 4 ) and do very heavy damage in backstab attacks ( sneaky first attack )

Some have also said that the speed bonus has, when combined with weapons that give a speed reduction, been an improvement in using those weapons.

I think though the set is more or less meant to flesh out the offerings of the biome based on a player's style. Seems like they're trying to offer 2 sets (heavy / light) per biome currently.

So if the set doesn't match your playstyle, then it may not be of merit to you.

I'd say getting it at least gives you something to do and who knows, it may have merit later in development of the game.

Ok trying it now. Maybe it's ok outside dungeons and with better unarmed skill, but already died a few times in the mountain caves...

Seems a lot of effort compared to normal armour and weapons and might have been better to get end-game armor and weapons and THEN get this fenris set.

But it looks nice,...

Also remember the claw pieces can make standing braziers and the carpet made from jute stacks for higher comfort levels with other rugs too.
