Graydwarf nests
If I scour the forest and destroy all the Graydwarf nests will that stop them from spawning?
I'm getting kind of tired of having seemingly endless swarms of them show up every time I go out to mine. It's getting to the point where I feel like I wanna clear cut the forests just to be rid of them.

I have noticed things like fewer deer spawns, boar spawns in areas I have cleared of cover... even trolls and greydwarves. Of course things like spawners, boss night spawns or scripted spawns will spawn anyway. You also want to clear the area of smaller trees and brush. Enemies will not spawn in line of sight. So clearing things that block vision will prevent them spawning as well.
I have to concur with Blank. I have a HUGE mud beach i've created for the purpose of beaching serpents. I've cleared an area about as large as two football fields, completely removing trees and stones and leveling it to sea level. Its mostly meadows with a patch of Black forest. The spawns happen right before my eyes, necks, boars and greydwarfs. At night the Gobbies come (its ok though because I have about 50 2 star wolves on the beach).
Plains spawns do seem to spawn regardless of line of sight or it may be an additional distance factor where line of sight is ignored? IDK.
That has been my experience anyway. Not saying I am right or how the game is coded, but it sure feels that way when playing ha ha.
Sorry I won't click on external links.

Well if you are ever bored and want to visit my world, I will show you the crazy spawns on my cleared, muddy, flattened beach. You will see things spawn before your very eyes.
The link you are unwilling to click is a link to a Valheim wiki page that lists structures that provide "player base" of 20 meters around them (any area designated 'playerbase' will prohibit spawns).
Copy and pasted for your information:
The following structures have 20 meters of player base around them:
Artisan table
Bed
Blast furnace
Bonfire
Campfire
Charcoal kiln
Dragon bed
Fermenter
Forge
Hanging brazier
Hearth
Portal
Sconce
Smelter
Spinning wheel
Standing green-burning iron torch
Standing iron torch
Standing wood torch
Stonecutter
Ward
Windmill
Workbench
Source: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Player_base
So could it be possible that one of these structures were near your cleared area that might have reduced spawn in your cleared area giving you the impression it was because of the cleared area?
Just a thought.

Mobs spawns dont work like that in valheim , world spawns works like big area squares ( 64mx64m ) , trees or line of sight dont affect them You also want to clear the area of smaller trees and brush. Enemies will not spawn in line of sight. So clearing things that block vision will prevent them spawning as well.
Here is the souce

Its not only workbenchs that does this, even standing torches does this. If you destroy the nests, you only stop the nests from producing greydwarves.
If you want to mine safely, create a perimeter by either digging or placing stake walls. Also workbench circles prevent spawns, but also attracts enemies that spawn just outside the circle.

It'll work as long as you keep everything lit. That is why I suggested the moat/pallisade, if you have the time/resources you can even make a nice Mining Company!
From the Valhiem Wiki (and my personal experience)
"Structures that can be lit such as campfires and torches still provide the player base effect when they aren't lit."

The Black Forest at night is a dangerous place, didn't you get the memo?
anyway, a few strategically placed standing torches (and a fireplace to top up your rested buff) will keep them at a distance, but be prepared for a hail of rocks being thrown at you.
