Issue with GPU usage hitting 100% and overheating

No idea what's going on, the only game I play that even gets my gpu hot is Tarkov but for some reason Valheim wants to use 100% which is causing some decent overheating.

I read that limiting FPS and turning on v-sync helps but nothing changed after I tried both these things. Any other tips that might help?

I'm finding most games these days are pushing GPUs pretty hard (even modest games like Raft and Grounded).

I set my fans to 80% and it kept well within specs (65C GPU and 78C memory on a 3090). I wouldn't want to rely on the default fan profiles. You could even set them more aggressively yourself in Afterburner but I like to keep them fixed.

limiting the frame rate should stop it from overheating because it's not having to work as hard, so maybe limit it more.

Are you on a laptop?

Lol I have pretty decent rig (5700 XT) and no I'm not using a laptop.

This is not a graphically demanding game, I play literally dozens of different games many of which are more demanding than Valheim and none of them cause overheating or 100% gpu usage like this new update has. I've already attempted v-sync and then limiting fps to 60 but it still pins the gpu to 100%.

Mistlands update is broken. Guess I'll wait til they update/fix this

do you have AMD or Nvida GPU. how hot is it getting. does your gpu throttle. asking cuz alot of times people think there gpu is overheating when its really not

AMD (5700 XT). It got to 90 by the time I made a new character and spawned. No other game gets it that hot, period.

I already do this but 100% usage + 100% fan speed and it still hit 90 degrees. I won't chance damaging my card playing this. Hope they get a fix for this.

Limit your FPS in GPU's graphics settings, some systems fail to limit FPS in some games, so GPU just runs max chat and gets hot. My 3080 rarely goes over 60 degrees unless playing a VR game and fans are generally slow.

I mentioned in the main post as well as comments that I already did this and it didn't do anything.

Be careful with the Mistlands update and your GPU
Something is currently borked in this update and until they decide to address it I would be wary about playing this game. As of right now this game will pin your GPU to 100% and never stop regardless of graphical settings. You risk damage to your card. My card idles at around 40 degrees but jumps to 90 within 60 seconds of the game loading. I don't even have load a game, just sit in the menu for long enough and you can roast marshmallows on your PC. I've tried limiting FPS, vsync on and off, lowering graphical settings, using AMD's Adrenalin software to lower it but to no avail.

To be clear this does not happen with other games. Games that are actually graphically intense do not have this same issue. The closest I get would be in Tarkov I can get up to 70-80% usage and around 70 degrees.

Just a warning to be careful is all.

I have the same problem and can't in good conscience play the game. I can play Elden Ring, God of War, and whatever other games and they won't warm up my pc half as much lol. The game is just not well optimized which I hope they can manage to fix a bit before release.

Are you guys playing on a Laptop? If not I would worry more if my GPU is not at max, cause that would mean a CPU Bottleneck.
