Seriously Considering a Haldor Base
I located Haldor fairly close to shore in the Black Forest. I built a 6 x 8 meter shack with a 2 x 2 meter fireplace attached on raised ground at the shore as close as I could get to Haldor's camp. The shack had only a campfire and a portal inside and no outer defenses. I dismantled the workbench I had used during construction because, as everyone knows, raids/events require 3 base structures to trigger.
Everyone knows that except for Valheim itself. While sitting out the night before exploring further I experienced "A foul smell from the Swamp." i exited the door to my shack, closing it behind me, to draw away any threats to the structure itself. Plenty of draughr and skeletons. I shortly decided that I would be overwhelmed and ran for it.
Not back to the shack. I had left it because I don't believe it is a safe haven from draughr. I went to Haldor's camp. No enemies followed me through Haldor's force field into his camp. The camp itself was inside the raid/event red zone so I was able to stay there and wait until it ended. Did you know that Haldor is "short for a dwarf?" He told me that as I waited.
Once the raid was over, I went back to my shack to find it undisturbed. So now I am considering constructing a major base on the site. I am thinking that earthen walls will keep out any ground-based enemies. If I can manage to extend the walls so that their ends butt up against Haldor's force field, I can make Haldor's camp serve as an impenetrable gate which does not have to be opened or closed. I can make the earthen walls just as high as I want. If things really go south during a raid/event, Haldor's camp will also serve as an inviolable sanctuary.
At least that is the concept. But then "A foul smell from the Swamp" should not have happened since only two base structures, a campfire and a portal, were present.

Haldor's area is actually pretty handy for a minibase at least. I always find copper near him, one or two of them, and lots of thistles n shrooms. Being a good 'Murican I clear-cut the area, tag the resources and put my base at the edge of the huge copper hole figuring maybe someday I can get a friendly troll to fall down there and become my big blue pet.

That's probably 'cause Hador's bubble applies you devcommands ghost protection, when you're inside it. If you're outside, mobs can track you regularly.I've never actually seen a creature repulsed by the bubble. The only effect I've noticed is that when I'm inside it they no longer seem to see me so maybe that's all it does. If you're outside it perhaps there's nothing to actually stop an enemy from pathing to your location?Haldor Doesn't Help As Much As I Thought.
Turhs out that the force field around Haldor does not keep enemies out. "The ground is shaking..." and two trolls came right into my base through Haldor's force field.
Perhaps enemies cannot physically harm a Viking inside the force field but they can certainly walk right through it.
Also, the only bubble I've seen really protecting you, kicking out incoming mobs (but not the ones inside already) is WardIsLove's Mod one.

If you find the border of his bubble and move back and forth slightly, you can have a dance off with the Troll like in Guardians of the Galaxy.
You just need to find the point where he 'looses' the ability to track you in the bubble. Just be careful if you dance too far outside the bubble, he will smash you like the Hulk.
Enjoy.

On my two worlds I play on I got lucky and there was already stone towers nearby Haldor. A couple iron ingots for stone cutters later, I repaired them both and turned them into nice and relatively protected outposts, at least from the usual denizens of the Black Forest. Definitely worth having a reinforced portal base to reach Haldor.

Was it possibly counting Haldor's fire?
Anyway that sounds like a fun idea.

My latest playthru has my Homebase right next to Haldor. I have mead with him every morning, and yes he drinks a lot of mead for a short dwarf!
Your idea for earthen walls and using his bubble as a doorway works just fine. When a raid occurs, I just shoot arrows down on their heads and get all the resources. I plan to fully enclose his bubble, just to see if it can be done…and to keep him out of my mead supply, I think he’s been taping the barrel late at night. 😝
I’ll post some pics later today. Skal!

You can build a structure around his bubble (like he is in a courtyard) but you cannot build above his bubble as far as i'm aware.

Here is a screenshot of my viking standing next to the shack containing a campfire and a portal. Barely visible in the background above the viking's head is the force field dome of Haldor's camp. I think the distance is too great for Haldor's fire to have assisted in triggering the raid/event.
An update. I have raised two earthen walls perhaps ten meters apart; both butting against the force field dome. The walls are roughly parallel and 25 meters long. A troll came along when I was outside of one wall pickaxing a boulder for more stone. I hopped over the wall at the point whete it butted against the dome. The troll made a circuit of Haldor's camp to get to me.
When I finish the wall, I believe it will work exactly as I have foreseen, provided I cover the entire interior with workbenches or campfires. The resulting base will be much larger than I am accustomed to build.

We was just lucky to find a stone tower by skeletons, not that far from Hador's camp: fortified that one, placed a portal, nothing else: our main base is still in the meadows.
Nice thing, tho, the ground walls to protect yours there: I used that method, away from main base (as my server's owner tells they generate lag when lot of structures are around), to protect, from trolls and draugrs, pig pens or other structures I've around.

If that campfire wasn't Hador's one, are you sure Hador's don't count towards "player base" 3 structures? At least that is the concept. But then "A foul smell from the Swamp" should not have happened since only two base structures, a campfire and a portal, were present.

Agreed, I tried to go pretty damn high over it and no dice, did not work.
