Best weapons in the game
By pure cost-effectiveness.
Can it anything other than the Fang spear? Deals with most enemies on every biome including Plains, quick and has range due to the throw ability + is dirt cheap to make compared to the other weapons.
My unwillingness to grind more than necessary makes this my go-to weapon, but I guess I should try something new this game. I used Frostner a bit last game, so that's a decent but not as cheap weapon. Are there any other gems that are versatile and fun to use?

The sneak attack is fun and usefull "sometimes" but I think what sets knives apart is the attack speed. It shreds.

Clubs/maces are my primary weapon. Blunt damage is the best in the game up to Mistlands. Less creatures are resistant to blunt damage than any other damage.

You assume correctly. I assume the OP hasn't made a carapace spear yet.
That does sound fun, but also like a a decent amount of grind/work without enough synergy to other things. :edit: sorry I forgot to answer your question. Knives. Try a knife build, you will love it. Work on sneak from the start and have fun backstabbing!

the fire staff is the best weapon in the game. Demolishes everything, needs no ammo, deals more damage per shot than any other weapon in the game, and is like the only ranged aoe attack in the game. Literally mops the floor with every enemy except for deathsquitos, but the frost staff deals with those nicely.
I'd put the frostner as the best non-magic weapon though, as its a mountain tier weapon and yet its probably the most useful melee weapon for the plains and mistlands. The fire staff beats it out though, but if you hate eitr, then the frostner is the next best alternative
Curious what you think frostner has over mistwalker?

I'm a spear proponent my self in general for overall versatility but each to their own. I just wish it didn't look like an absolute piece of junk! The Bronze and Ancient wood spears especially are awesome to look at but the damage cant compete.
I wonder to the devs have that common delusion that players will use the nice looking gear over the really good stuff stat wise? If so how very sad they are so unobservant of their target market?
Form over fashion every time my friends but having the nasty skin o the good item just generates more and more dissatisfaction but I guess that matters little doesn't it?

Deals more frost damage and takes less stamina to swing, the mistwalker is nice but vs seekers and seeker soldiers they do about the same damage since the extra slash damage advantage is negated since they are resistant to it. Not much of a reason to make it if you already have the frostner

If playing legit, the most important thing is your skill level with that weapon. Most people have a primary and a secondary. I have a mace character and I have a sword character and both have frostner but only one has mistwalker. In my play i always have mace as a secondary. sword/mace spear/mace knife/mace are a few I really enjoyed. So I guess thats why even though skill level is the true decider if a weapon is best for "you" the best mace (frostner) has the advantage of doing extra damage to so many difficult mobs/bosses. 80/40 is what I usually go for, always getting the secondary leveled first. Also if the devs stick to common rpg themes/mechanics blunt is the best weapon against undead and now knowing the ashlands are undead I bet we see something to replace frostner next biome.
P.S. 100% agree with OP though on spear being not only fun but the least resource intensive primary weapon to have.
:edit: sorry I forgot to answer your question. Knives. Try a knife build, you will love it. Work on sneak from the start and have fun backstabbing!

I find the frostner to be the most versatile weapon in the game.

Mistwalker is the upgraded frostner though its a sword. But the mistlands have provided a host of excellent weapons that include a new spear, a new atgier, crossbow, dual knives, 2h sword, 2h hammer, polearm, axe.... and of those several stand out as worth any amount of effort to produce.
the sword is just good all around, frost slow is powerful, damage is solid.
the xbow hits really, really hard. As in just 3 from behind shots for a lox.
the atgier has aoe and stun. Its probably #1 in the game because stunlock, for general purpose combat and specifically being hunted, fuling groups/towns, ice caves/mines, and other crowded areas.
here is my 2 cents: pierce damage is highly resisted by many enemy to counter the overpoweredness of bows. That makes the spear, atgeir, and even the crossbow weaker than they should be. They are still fine weapons, but the lack of resists to slash make the sword, 2h sword stronger than their counterparts. For that reason, and the frost debuff, I use mistwalker almost exclusively now.
I am ignoring the staves here. There are only 2, and they are different enough that both are simply best in class for their type due to what they are. They are arguably the best ranged weapons in the game, but you do have to change your diet and accomodate them if you want to use them. The aim on the frost staff is abysmal. The ease of use of the fire staff is outstanding, if you miss, you need to get your vision checked.
notes: the grind for the new weapons is SMALL once you have the CRAFTING STATIONS. The grind for the crafting stations is RNG driven but it can be a bit rough/excessive if your luck is poor.
-> You can beat anything in the game with draghr fang bow and a variety of arrows (there are new arrows too but you need the craft station), if you don't mind long, long fights.

I guess i can recommend only weapons you currently use.
Spear is a must have for me and it is my primary weapon through the whole game.
Frostner and Porcupine are also great weapons i use a lot in late game.
If i decide to change them, i would probably go with daggers and atgeirs. Daggers are cheap, fast and don't consume a lot of stamina. Atgeirs are great crowd control weapons and i think they are pretty cheap too.
However, you will still need blunt dmg for Bonemass and Stone golems, so i see it as mandatory to have one of the maces.
