When you start a new world...
...do you start a new character or bring in an old one?
And if you bring in an old one what inventory do you carry along when starting a new world seed?
I tend to start new characters so I am curious what the impact on game play is when you bring in an established character and their gear.
Does it make it too easy or just smooth out the rough spots in progression (like the forever bronze tier)?

I bring in my current one, particularly because it lets me get around the whole "no teleporting ores" problem. Bring the character to another world, even using the same seed, mine/gather the needed ores from nearby chests, stack them all into one chest, then pick it all up before loading my original world. Carrying over 1200 worth of ores? No problem! Being massively overloaded doesn't matter if you only have to walk a few meters to reach your chests/smelter/charcoal kiln.
Granted, it's absolutely cheesing the mechanics, since you're not depleting finite resources in your original world or having to do as much base building in the world(s) that you are depleting. At worst, you'll need a basic shack and a bed nearby as a respawn point, or even more minimally, a workbench and bed set up in a cave entrance. Or when I gather iron, I just log out from within a safe area of the crypt I'm farming. That sort of thing.
As such, I won't recommend it for everyone, since it definitely reduces much of the early resource gathering challenge in the game.

Totally depends on how you want to play. I have a building save which I use my initial toon but then if I feel like starting afresh, it's a new toon every time. I like to see how efficient I can be. lol

Depends on how long since I've last played ... If I can't recall what project/goal I was working on, I start completely fresh.

Easier when you import a toon.. because you have higher skills with an imported character, and higher damage & armor if you import gear.
Also, your tech is all unlocked, so you really don't have to go and unlock anything. Importing a toon is like, for a new world where you want to build a cool base so you don't have annoying raids. Rather pointless to mash through the boss fights again, because that just creates more raids while giving you no new technology (Moder is still a roadblock for black iron of course).
That just leaves the mystery of exploration and voyage. If you really enjoy exploring the fog of war on the map, but want the security of having a powerful veteran character, that can be fun too.
No lie, I once rode a sea serpent. Jumped on its head, and away we went. My point in telling you this is because there are many adventures and experiences waiting to happen. The world doesn't change what you can do in it.
Anyway, I like to start with a new toon if I am going for a fresh boss progression. Another option could be to make a new toon on an old world, and see if you can survive the raids!

Start with new characters in new worlds.
I tried a couple of times to use old characters... First off it felt really too too easy with your skills up.
Bringing anything metal means you need a forge right away to repair it. So fine but then you just skip right into Black Forest until you realize you don't need anything from there really.
As the game goes on it feels like an empty husk devoid of any purpose. I didn't like that although I felt super powerful it was all pointless to me.

Since my main died like way over a hundred times, his skills range from Meadows to Black Forest level, so he really doesn't feel too powerful. ;)
I just started a new world. Originally just for testing, now I just sent him there just for the heck of it.
The only thing he's really got is his lvl 3 deer leather armor, and the "deathsquito slaying" lvl 2 flint knive.
Other than that, he's completely on his own. Just like a new character.

Have started new worlds with old character. Mainly I bring with me finewood bow and strength belt because didn't want things to get too easy.
And the reason to not start from the beginning are the skills, which I never get into high numbers due to stupid decisions
Granted, my last restart was from blank state and have enjoyed it! Even sneaking upon deers have been a nice little touch.

I've been doing both. But usually I start from scratch.
I have mainly three worlds with three characters for each, but I've been using both my first and second char on other worlds as I see fit.
The third char, Gudrun, stays mostly in her "no portals, no bosses" world.
So, yeah, it depends.

I've been meaning to revisit my Terraria technique, and have a home base world with no progress. Then I can take my character to any world.

I've started a few characters, but now I just use the same one. I don't bring anything. Usually that's kind of forced, since I just died on my last world! :-)
I started doing that, thinking it would help advance the character skills, but they pretty much stay the same, since I eventually die and that rolls them back again.
I'm sure it does make things easier (at least) at first, since the character skills are higher, I don't think it's too much of an impact, although I may start a new character soon to see if I can really tell the difference.

I wouldn't know as I've only played one world - for 3600 game days. What can I say, it's a nice world
