I think that before I deal with the 'Elder' I'm going to seriously upgrade my main bases. Foul Stench seems to make camp sites (simple forts) useless.

I fight bosses on other worlds, and build my "main" base on its own; I prefer to never have to deal with anything more than "Eikthyr rallies the forest" while building. I kill myself by stepping into thin air often enough; I don't need monsters adding frustration to my own lethal stupidity.

I just had one of these, immediately after killing the Elder, while I was in the process of digging around my standing stone outpost. The ditch will keep melee away but stench brings archers. Basically I hopped out and ran around until the timer ended, and then ran away from the base area and hid. They were gone by the time I went back. Didn't kill a single one of them.

The raid sticks around for a certain amount of time (a couple minutes), and only goes down when you're in the area. Try to fight if you can, but simply running in circles until the enemy grows bored is an option, though the last enemies in the area will still chase until they've been dealt with.

5 minutes? feels like forever. if you can kill all the mobs no more come. OH, you need to kill the mobs. they don't just despawn. also, I am not near an actual swamp. the mobs that come to me are skeletons and stuff. the slime balls are harder, obviously. thats why i dont build near a swamp.
