I think you are looking for World of Warcraft. What you are asking for doesn't exist in games like this. You only really meet people offline via discussion boards and Discord in these types of games.

Well...Rust will have some servers that would make you happy so some others might to, but definitely not this one. The Rust servers are set to have you spawn in with some decent gear and resouces are plentiful. So if some one comes in and destroys your base while you are offline...you are not out much. Here, if I took the poassword off my server I can guaranty days of game time worth of work from multiple people would be gone in minutes.

its to protect player worlds where they can invite people they want only.
as mentioned above, Randoms joining other worlds has lead to people being griefed and all their work destroyed.
back when i had money to rent servers, i had 7 days 2 die playing. first world was open to all. took about 2 days before teh entire server had to be redone as griefers had destroyed everything. 2nd world i installed surveillance software to monitor other players to ensure they where not cheating or trying to grief. and to auto kick known trouble makers.
Password protecting servers is pretty much standard now due to other players past behavior.

Suzaku posted the link to the forum area where you can look for groups and post yuor own.

Sorry, but some players find it fun destroying others ability to have fun.

Its good to know the only people willing to type anything are all negative gas lighters. none of you are useful.

Facing reality sucks. The sooner you learn that, the better.

The devs don't force a password because people were jumping into other worlds and filling their chests with gold and good meals.

Sucky people happened and ruined it for the rest of us. Blame the human condition.

Use the discord there are always people looking for groups in there.

99% of "randoms" online just want to cause grief and pain to everyone around them due to varying degrees of mental illness.
So the rest password protect their games and play with already established friends.
Gaming community caused this problem themselves and there is nothing devs can do about it.

That shouldnt cause you to be forced to make a password protected game. It should give you the option to take that risk, but I suppose the Devs could care less about giving their players options. Every other co-op game with open world aspects have this problem but their Devs arent snooty about it. instead it forces a lonely gameplay with only finding people on chat rooms and third party apps possible. Its just lazy
