The powers that be have definitely made changes to what spawns where and how often they spawn. As recent as the start of this year, I was hard pressed to find enough deer meat to feed the plethora of wolf packs surrounding my HQ. I believe just prior to the Frost Caves instalment, is when the change occurred and I no longer have to hunt outside the environs of the main base to find enough deer meat to sustain the many wolf packs. Boar & deer now spawn so prolifically that the wolf packs supply themselves, and are even increasing in size and range. Boar, deer and necks, are also spawning in locations in which they historically had zero presence.

Historically I have never known of a troll inside a cave respawning after it is killed, but those outside of caves will respawn in the same location some time after being killed. I know this for a fact, as there was and is 3 locations where they respawn beside copper nodes I have marked on my map, near one of my main outposts. I use these respawning trolls to break up and mine the copper.

My experience has been that trolls outside the caves do respawn but only after a while, and if you leave the location for that while. Trolls inside caves it seems does not. like skeletons.

My understanding is that the trolls on the surface respawn, but the trolls in the troll caves do not respawn once killed.

Much the same way that skeletons do not respawn in the burial chambers once cleared. I'm too afraid to go in the troll cave and haven't killed one just yet.

In my older playthroughs, trolls generated by the vicinity of a cave (whether inside or outside the cave) did NOT respawn. However, on this current playthrough, it really does seem like the troll cave near my base at the Trader's Camp does have respawning trolls (on the outside).

And of course you can get randomly-generated trolls in any part of the Black FOrest, and (obviously) the ones that spawn through "The Ground is SHaking" raid event.

actually, trolls do respawn in the caves, it just takes a few in game days

On my older plays, the Skelleys on the OUTSIDE of the burial chambers did not respawn, either. Now they seem to, just not on the inside, like you said.

I've -never- had trolls in caves respawn, on any map seed over hundreds and hundreds of days in game.

This is incorrect. Trolls inside the caves may indeed respawn (although I have NOT seen it happen), but it CERTAINLY takes more than "a few days" if it's possible at all.

I am playing vanilla, and regularly visit one Troll Cave on my wait to a small Plains base I have.

Maybe surrounding building structures stop a respawn (for outside, but I doubt this would affect the inside), but we've had our Troll Museum for about 400 hours and no trolls have ever spawned inside the troll cave or outside.

Troll caves DO NOT respawn. This includes everything except glowshrooms(what i call yellow mushrooms).
