cloud save stability?
Are you more likely to have issues with cloud saves when building a large project or making other major changes? Because I've never had a cloud save error before yesterday. But I started a big build 3 days ago and now I've had both Valheim and Steam crash 2 days in a row while a save was in progress. Turns out this is even worse than crashing normally, because both times the changes to my inventory and status were preserved, but all changes to the server were lost.

Ditto. Turned it off for all my games. I turned off the Steam cloud save feature many years ago. It caused more problems that it was worth and It never solved anything at all. I back up my various Steam game's save files manually and have found that method 100% reliable.

Recently had some issues with the steam cloud in general and lost a lot of Savegame-files of various games.
Luckily, Valheim wasn't affected.
But because of this I highly recommend making a manual backup of your save as well.
You'll find them in the appdata/local low directory of your system drive.
Zip the entire directory and store it somewhere safe.
If this save had gone too, I'd propably had my PC thrown out of the window.

I've never found cloud saves to be any good. Local saves now auto-backup (multiple files), and you can make your own backups to another drive/computer/cloud if you want.

not sure per-game, but there is a global steam setting to kill it for all games which I use. I don't like the cloud generally, and specifically its a performance hit.
Valheim, you are copying your files over the (slower than your flash drive) web and increasing the lag time during saves. Other game hide it better. My main world is almost 2 years in with close to a dozen bases now and still < 5 sec local save.

I had trouble figuring this out at first, too. Disabling cloud saves through the Steam options just made my saves and characters inaccessible. But if you leave the Steam settings alone, you can go in game and use "manage saves" to move characters and servers to local storage.

They have described everything in the pinned Valheim FAQ thread.
And disabling steam cloud doesn't make your saves inaccessible unless you delete them form your pc.
Old file save location which was in appdata is used to store saves locally now, so you wouldn't find them in there in the first place.

Is it just me, or has the last few updates (wether with the cloud saves or not) become really unstable. Nothing has changed in my house and I am constantly crashing every 10 minutes or so. In multiplayer and yes I have a 3080 so I can run the game well enough with the rest of the pc to match it. I am playing with up to 3 people and it affects the game for everyone. I am not the host.
