Obliterator: I'm disappointed
OK, so when I started the game, I was looking forward to the obliterator. Once I finally got to the bronze age, I was going through coal like Howard Hughes went through Kleenex. Here's how I can use my unwanted items for coal!
I've found the rate of return is so abysmal. I hoarded so many resin that I put about 200 in the obliterator, and I got like 20 coal back. 20 coal? I can get that in seconds by lumberjacking outside the base and using the kiln. Even the trophies aren't giving me much.
I suppose it is useful to get rid of old gear (which gives you nothing)... but I was really thinking this thing would be more useful. Am I not using it right?

I think some people would be more satisfied if it gave you nothing, like the coal makes the purpose confusing.
Honestly it's entirely trivial to get coal anyway by that point - you can chainsaw forests with an iron axe and the elder power and get as many charcoal furnaces as you can fit in your base.

Getting rid of stuff was the reason people asked for the obliterator in the first place. Trash was a problem.
If Haldor becomes a better sink for the stuff we accumulate, such as furs (but even things like bone, in mass quantity) the need for an obliterator would be diminished, but it would still be a fun gadget to have around.

I don't recommend burning coins unless you're *really* sure you won't be impoverished when the shop inventory changes. But if you *are* going to burn coins, you can get twice the coal by buying fishbait to burn instead.

Trophies and coins have the best exchange rates. (trophies are 1:1, and while coins have a much worse exchange rate, [same as everything else except arrows, which are even worse] the 999 per stack and large number you can gather makes a full stack of coins one of the best things to use.)

A full one usually nets me 90 coal. Never more than that.

It's main functionality is just destroying a trash, since items don't de-spawn near the workbenches. The coal is just a joke-ish bonus

It's not ment to be a source of coal it's just to get rid of unneeded stuff. The coal is just a little gift could also give you back nothing.

Yeah, it's generally 1 coal per 10 common items. Arrows, wood and trophies produce more.
It's meant to destroy items while providing a bit of something in return. It's a good way of getting rid of something like many stacks of bones from a skeleton surprise event.

It was created to answer a problem: trashing items. Most people would just take to the ocean and dump them, but that could get ugly and items still never disappeared.
It was never designed to make trashing worth the return, it was only designed to allow people to destroy items. There is an alternative way of farming coal; surtlings drop lots of coal and they spawn in the Ashlands to the south or the Swamp.
