I've been away for awhile, I kind of got burned out because I mass produced ingots then had to sail for ages then trek up and down a mountain to use them as building materials where I wanted to build.

At some point I started logging out and stashing my ingots in a chest in another world just so I could avoid hauling them around, then I was like "Yeah all of my immersion in the game has been ruined by this and I don't want to play it anymore"

Do portals still allow metal armor and nails through but not ingots for no reason just because the devs have asinine ideas about what portable ingots would mean?
