can boats/longships have a similar functioning map icon to how other players can be seen?
i've lost my boat and can't find it or even remember where i had it last.
it would be nice if those things had a map icon similar to how you can see other players on the map if they have it toggled on.

The large T is actually a Hammer icon from what I have been told. personally i use the fireplace icon for OAK trees (im building an oak forest ) and boats/rafts etc.. then u can filter them all..
FYI i use the large T symbol as a Menhir locator shipwreck and all stone circles ,the house icon for ANY structure and name it L1 if i build a bed... small circles are b1 =1 blueberry, R1,C1 M1 ... BC is burial chamber with a red X its been explored etc etc piece of cake
Yeah... I know
I use it to mark ore deposits personally.
General markers for boats I will just use the dot... I don't have too many and remove them when the boat is moved etc.
@OP it does not take too many mistakes like that to learn to put markers down. I still catch myself running away and looking on the mini map and seeing no marker and run back to it to mark it.
At least you know it is along the shoreline ha ha ha!

Also this is just something I'd personally want but to be able to craft beacons you can place onto the mast of ships (maybe with dragon eggs or anything glowy) that can specifically be seen from a very long distance, even beyond the normal draw distance. Mostly somth for fun/decor but could very well be useful for spotting where your ship is if you cant really remember where you left it. More fun than just a marker.

Through similar experience I have learned to always leave an icon where I moor my vessel when exploring. Valheim Plus has a feature that places boat & cart icons on one's map wherever they are located. That feature and the one that allows extended zoom out while sailing are 2 of the QoL features I use V+ for.

Yeah, in general your best bet is to mark the map yourself immediately after landing.
It also helps to drop a portal at your landing site, dying after a boat trip is always a sad event.

It's a good suggestion though. You should add it to the suggestion thread here in the sub forums or over on the official discord suggestions channel.

One easy thing to do is to mark the spot on the map where you leave the ship.
I can see the point in having automatic markers, but otoh, less hand-holding is also good. I think I prefer doing the marks manually on the map.

Try to figure out where you last sailed to.. Did you sail to a new place or did you sail back home? But as Loppe said. Once you land your boat. Make a marker and name it, in case you like me, forget stuff, or mark everything.

Another thing to consider;
depending at where you landed, it could be destroyed too. Swamp and Plains are places where your boat will be destroyed, but even a horde of greydwarves may be able to destroy it.
Thorin :)
