Why? I think that there are then unnecessary problems during the update. I play with what I have available. An unofficial mod, blueprint, etc. gives me the impression that I'm cheating. If there is an official site in this direction, I will be grateful for the address, I will be happy to look there.

Well I guess that is your issue if you feel that way. I like to use them for a variety of legit reasons. Its a matter of giving players the options they enjoy to play including a difficulty slider and quick save/reload. If they added hardcore option with where you die, lose everything and respawn in a new world with nothing would be fine with me. I wouldn't use it nor would I be critical of those that enjoy that type of gamplay.

After playing 1000 hours in this excellent game, I can say that the save method here is very stupid. I definitely agree with "Blud", the player should be able to choose the difficulty of the game. In this game, a power outage, PC or game crash coupled with a failed sync will cause quite a stir. You're missing something (like a key to the swamps), you have something twice (like armor), you're missing exploration on the map. Then it's seriously depressing. Negatively original is the possibility to load a character into another world. Equipping the "Mistland" class with the appropriate material is quite pleasant until the beginning of the game. And the brutality of the game is gone. Whoever wants will find a way. The beginner who suffers the most in this "save" who does not know what awaits him......

Just use a mod that prevents loss of skills or items until they eventually add that as an option to toggle on/off in a future update.

Thanks for the info, I don't use "mods".

hhahaha, yeah. At first I´ve been disappointed too that it´s not possible to "cheat" like in other games - but that makes this game more spicy.

To make progression loss as little as possible, when the game crashes, power is lost, internet connection goes off,...

Then you can load the save, when you restart the game.

Running mods? Either update them or get rid of them if so. That's been the main cause of the game not running for most people in the past 24 hours due to the recent update.

I'll preface this by stating that I used to be one of the worst F5/F9 offenders in the history of gaming. That being said, let's continue:

The save functionality in this game is to keep your progress when the game is not running; whether that's due to a power failure, a crash, or just turning off the game because you have to get up for work in... (checks time) three and a half hours, it keeps you from having to start over because something made you stop playing.

Dying is part of the experience. When you die, a new save is created while you're respawning. The save functionality is supposed to be for preserving your progress, not save-scumming, and I think it does a pretty good job.

Now; all of that being said, you can load your character from backup if you insist, but you have to exit to the main menu and click the "Manage Saves" button to do so. The process is tedious, and I'm fairly certain that it's intended to prevent exactly the sort of use that you want to put it to.

My advice? Take the L and move on. Treat it as a learning experience, and try not to die in that exact way again.

I dont know what F5 or F9 does.
Also that's fair about legit deaths but i've got stuck in a game, couldn't get out and ended up dead, saw that my last save was 20 minutes ago. Log out, then load back and im back at my house with no gear.

Unless theres a way to unstuck myself i feel a bit robbed here.

Stuck, as in can't physically move, or stuck as in a difficult situation?

The first should be reported as a bug, the second is just gameplay. And deaths should be punishing.

Nothing, in Valheim. In many games over the last few decades, those are the "quicksave" and "quickload" buttons. Don't sweat it, I'm just older than you by a good bit.

Press M to open the map, and look for the "skull and crossbones" icon. It'll say something like "DAY 168" under it. That's where your stuff is; go back and get it.

I'm not quite sure how you "got stuck", but in any case I can think of, there should be a way to work around whatever caused you to die the first time so that you can retrieve your stuff. It might take a little while, but it should be doable.

For example:
If you "got stuck" in the water and drowned, then build a boat (raft, karve, or longboat) to go back, and then just jump in the water, press "E" on your tombstone to get your stuff back, and get back on the boat.
Alternatively, build a "dock" to walk out and get your stuff.
Alternatively, make a hoe and/or pick and change the terrain to make it less likely you'll get stuck when you go for a swim.
Eat something. Better yet, eat 3 somethings. Hover your mouse cursor over the different foods, and loot at the health and stamina numbers they provide; eat stuff with lots of stamina if you want to go swimming, so you don't drown.
Conversely, eat stuff with lots of health if you got your face pushed in. Build new equipment, and upgrade it. Be prepared to fight whatever killed you last time, so you don't just end up with two tombstones full of junk.

The store page for Valheim says it's a "brutal exploration and survival game".
The "brutal" part is that mistakes hurt.

Learn from them, and make fewer of them in the future.
