Performance

Now the game has been out for so long and you still have to fix the performance yourself (my guide ..). You get money for your game, why is that not possible?

after .150.3 , FPS is terrible
3080 / Ryzen 9 3900x, 32 gigs of ram
Game always ran 60-90 for me, and now its running at 20-25 fps after this update. My wife is playing it on a gaming laptop with a gtx 1050 ti in it and with the same graphics settings she is getting 50ish FPS. Any one have any ideas? (I saw an article about the april windows update causing some FPS issues, I have uninstalled it)

There have been some incremental improvements but they're focused on bug hunting right now. I'd continue not expecting serious optimisation efforts until all the biomes, bosses and game mechanics are in place.

I feel like fps is a bit better than when I last played, but my graphics drivers are newer too, so it's hard to say on which end it changed.

I remember one of the changes they made was to how the map registered pickaxe hits. It now only records the final vertex hit in the 2d map instead of each hit. It makes terraforming much easier to do now. Theyve done a few things here and there.

Depends on assets and terraforming still. Out and about performance for me is usually 80-100fps
Back at my huge base with a moat filled with wolves and a boar breeder and wolf breeder and all manner of stuff then it tanks to 30-40.
But…. When I say huge base I mean it

Low FPS -
Hello, I recently upgraded from an HP prebuilt to a PC that i built, i am running an I5 9600K with RX550 4GB GPU, 16GB 3200. My HP was ryzen 3 2200 with same GPU and lower freq RAM, i expected the jump in CPU speed to show some jump in FPS for Valheim, however it seems to be the same or worse? I run CSGO and paladins at 120-150 FPS, i tried 7D2D on high settings and it was pulling around 30 FPS but felt good how it was running. Valheim on high settings is only running 12-15 FPS and on low with details off it only runs around 20. I know i didnt build a top end rig but this doesn't seem right. i have done many things i have seen online, the fullscreen, the GFX script. GPU and windows are up to date and running DX 12 ( F12.0) any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

the gpu almost doesnt matter in valheim, this game leads to people usually being cpu capped. it might not be what you expect after your upgrade but this game is not optimised
and 15-30 fps sounds about right if you are in an area where you built or terraformed a bunch.

1920x1080 60 fps

Foliage on lowest
shadows lowest
Render distance max
bloom and DOF off

Stays a fairly solid 60
With settings on maxed I was getting a lot of FPS drops... playable but not really fluid or fun.
Foliage seemed to be the biggest hit for me.

GTX 1070
I 5 3.5Ghz
16 gig ram

I have exactly the same CPU, and same RAM frequency. My GPU is RTX 3070.
I have no clue how good your GPU is(I'm not an AMD/ATI guy), but I assume it is not much worse than my gtx1080?
Your FPS should be around 70. In no way it can perform as bad as 12 fps.

I also have 7dtd running(almost) maxed out at ~50-70fps in worst cases and around 110fps in calm scenes.

I'm suspecting you have some odd issues with your software/OS/drivers.

I just hope it doesnt get worse haha probably its because im building more and more and the world is heavier somehow...but I'd say my performance is slightly worse than one or two patches ago, lol.

Still unknown how worse does performance get after building a lot or littering the world with dropped items (I know those in workbench areas wont despawn)

But honestly I expect them to increase performance, at least a little bit, before leaving EA. Most of ea games did, imo

If you have not taken the time to research the numerous tweaks out there to help fps then that is where you will be left at unfortunately. EA games require some self tweaking to be playable at times.

Try listing information
HArdware specs
FPS
Dedicated/non dedicated server
Any tweaks applied
Do you like icecream

All important if you want help

Don't be silly, the game clearly doesn't run as well as it should at its level of fidelity. With that said, optimization is usually the last thing done in development cycle, so depending on what they're planning content-wise, there may be some waiting on that end yet.

Even more silly is you thinking it has performance issues. There is none. You didnt event provide any facts about the game having perf issues.

Sure fine polish optimization is done last, but the game runs perfect. those having issues are having the issues on their end, not the game. This is just stating the obvious... Next time, say something that is actually saying something, not stating something generic which tells nothing, but just how little you apparently know about games.

In case you didnt know, there was a performance issue with how they handled the terrain and it was already optimized. Here's an actual fact for you.

Despite some people claiming the game runs perfect for them and that it has no issues it's a documented fact that it does not run perfectly for everyone. Some people have had crashes and lost their saves. Some have had FPS drops that make the game unplayable. Some of it is tied to the terrain and they did some work to fix that, but the game still isn't fully optimized and won't be for a while. Until it is some people will continue to have performance issues with the game.

Still don't believe that some people are having issues? Go here:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/892970/discussions/1/

I'm happy it works well for most people but I can tell you that I've had some minor issues, the majority were FPS related, but they've mostly been worked out with just a few tweaks to the settings and by avoiding huge builds and by not doing a lot of terrain modification.

I've seen dozens of posts from people with systems far better than mine who have had issues with the game's performance, even with tweaked settings. I've also seen a few people playing on potatoes that run it with very few problems, and sometimes no issues at all.

It can be primarily attributed to one single thing.

Originally posted by ThirdGen:

Yes, this.

Once the game is properly optimized and I would be willing to bet a huge number of the issues people are seeing related to performance will be solved. For now, though, players are going to see issues here and there until the game's a lot further along in the development cycle.
