Have the developers calibrated the grind level for single player?
I've played this game a while back and loved it, but the incredible amount of grinding and metal hauling made me end up quitting. Have devs adjusted this for single player?

Incomplete question will earn you uncalibrated answers, as shown above.

Im at close to 60 hours in from only solo. I enjoy the gameplay loop ALOT even though it's repetitive. By the time I got bored from grinding a single biome I was already on to the next zone.

Grinding? There's little grinding.
Perhaps you should look into optimizing your travel routes and shipping mechanics.
Unless you consider mining for copper once or twice in your life "grinding", then well.. This game just isn't for you.
If you're not into building a base, collecting resources and what-not, then don't do that. Focus on completing the game instead.
There are mods and cheats if you don't want to haul your stuff back to base.
But imo, you can just spend 5 mins on a boat getting it back to base as well. Or enjoying the physics of going downhill with a fully loaded cart.

I can always try now: what is grind for you? You sure can word some precise definition because you asked for it to be calibrated against some untold criteria.
For example, if you want to build a karv to explore some distant island, or reach next boss (the Elder?), then you need to process copper and tin ore. For the same amount of work (and clicking), what ig days and irl hours will this take, depending on your other activities, such as going on exploring nearby islands, farming, building the next base camp (closer to the next island), collecting other materials, surveying nice spots to build something epic?
- The amount of work to forge an iron set (or whatever item, upgraded or not) divided by the number of ig days it takes focusing almost only on this "task".
- The amount of work to forge an iron set (or whatever item, upgraded or not) divided by the number of ig days when you happen to finally complete the whole set/item.

They have not. If you want to tailor the game to fit a different pace you will probably want to look toward mods. It would be possible to lower item weights, drop rates, recipe requirements; all stuff that would cut down the grind without interfering with your save data.
You could also enhance the limits of some saved information like your number of inventory slots, item durability or maximum carry weight, which have a little chance of causing adverse side effects if you choose to remove them (e.g. items in your extra inventory slots will blink out of existence if you uninstall those slots and continue playing).
There is also the tedious and messy approach which is using console commands, which would let you change all sorts of values individually. Probably not practical for the scale of change you want.
So it's a shame that there aren't more settings like these built into the menus, but you do have choices.

I've not found it to be too much of a grind in solo worlds, but I enjoy mining so that's part of the reason.

I don't know what a grind is. So far, I have found one sunken crypt and got about 80 ingots of iron while dying three times. So I need to keep exploring and finding more swamps and sunken crypts.
Copper and tin mining is certainly not a grind if you organize it. Iron looks as though it's going to require lots of exploration. I hate exploration. Riding in a karve with a good wind to to reach new islands.

Not really, is the simple answer. That said, it is totally do-able and fun solo. To me, boss health pools need to be tweaked for solo players a bit more, specifically Yagluth. There are workarounds for grinding ore in sp.

Add a mod that lets you get metal through the portals. Kills 90% of the grind.

There is not a thing in this game that cannot be solo'd & I doubt the devs will change anything to make it easier.

Resources needed are pretty heavy and not reduced for single player, I'd say it's calibrated for two or three people but that's subjective obv. It is at least one of the easiest problems to mod.

I've gone about 90 hours solo so far, and I can say that it's definitely a grind.
But, for me, more than the issues of needing to drag metals everywhere is the lack of in-game guidance on where to get stuff. The change for iron ore from mining at nodes in the open world to searching through the Sunken Crypts in the Swamp was completely unexpected.
I spent a dozen hours looking around the world for new mining nodes that I could actually mine before giving up and looking online for what I needed to do next. Frustrating.
