Found a few things.
I found two things in my one long game.
I am at the early silver age (what I call it, or early-mid silver age).
Anyway, after mining silver for awhile in my first mountain, (I have not yet defeated the seventh boss); I decided to take a southern adventure.
My main goal was to form a new town or city somewhere directly in the far center south.
What I found was a new biome. Ashlands?
I basically ashlands and those fire elementals.
Everything on that land so far seems not much, but then I found a rare red shining fire ore of some kind.
I guess, that ore is meant for gear not at my point yet.
I collected some and figured this was not going to be an area I would settle (at least not yet).
As I was traveling on my longboat. I saw that I was at the edge of the map in the ocean and somehow was curious to see what was at the very edge.
Bad mistake as the ocean I am on does have a final point. I saw a waterfall and myself and my ship fell.
I thought it would be that.
But it wasn't.
See I was using some cheats I had forgotten.
I fell, and my ship fell all the way down that waterfall but what I found was a whole new land.
There are fire elementals and just tons of ashlands everywhere. Somehow it kept pulling me away from the waterfall,
I turned on fly mode though and like neo in the matrix was able to get back.
I tried to retrieve the special metal I had but I could not fly to my ship and turn fly off fast enough to land on my ship and at least get the little cargo it had in it.
So now I have a ship at the bottom of some strange land that fell from a waterfall at the edge of the ocean.
I guess I won't ever see that ship again.
But I think what I found was worth it enough even if now I have to build a new long ship.

There are some modpacks that have already implemented monsters and bosses for the 3 last tiers, mistlands, deep north, and ashlands. Epic Valheim is one. I think Valheim Story or some such is another.
They also add armor and weapons to be made with those new ores.
Now the land you are referring to is a bug of sorts. I saw a video on youtube about it when you fall off the world and wind up in a desert-like infinite land with not much there. That might be a testing area for devs while they were working on the actual ashlands since it is nicely textured. Who knows.
