you see, in the good old days, a game was finished (core) and everything coming later was some sort of expansion (finishing a game does not mean devs can't deliver more content). Legally though you had a finished product and you had to take 100% of responsibility of it in the wild market.
I asked this question because this game looks quite interesting and I'd like to give it a try, but I have yet to see a release date. Personally I've had some bad experience getting early access games where things get abandoned for whatever reason and then you can't even play them offline anymore.
When I see teams hiding behind early access (and all what it implies) for too long makes me hesitate... just out of experience.
Understandable, I also tend to take a long good look at game that are in Early Access (EA for short, yes just as THAT company).
Now, regarding Valheim in particular, while it is still in EA, and will probably remain that way until a couple of more years have passed, is completely playable.
There are a few things like some clipping from time to time, which is enthusiastically used by players to make their bases better looking, as well as some other usually minor things.
But, as long as it remains in either the Steam shop or in a buyers list of purchased games, it will be playable by that buyer. Just do remember that it doesn't yet support mods officially. Unofficially, the modding community is alive and well and updating said mods whenever the version of the game updates.
So, in this case, while it may be EA, it just means that there are still things that they want to put in (just stay clear of those future areas for now and the game will update them whenever the devs finish said areas). In the meantime, we still have everything else to play around and have our fun with.
So, your choice. Should you choose to take the plunge I, for one, welcome you upon this journey of survival, combat and exploration.

There is no deadline.
When it is done is when it is done. The devs don't even know at this point as the other biomes beyond mistland are not even in concept stage yet.

These kind of games tend to never finish and go through a endless cycle of updates to keep it fresh, for what minecraft has settled a trend.

They may continue to work on the game for a good while, but I believe there's a very good chance we'll see a 1.0 in a few years. These kind of games tend to never finish and go through a endless cycle of updates to keep it fresh, for what minecraft has settled a trend.

When getting a EA game there is something of a acceptance that you may never actually get a finished product, you hope that you will but nothing is certain.

There are certainly games that stay in EA for a very long time. Warframe's still in EA. Has been for almost a decade now.I had no idea mincraft was still in EA These kind of games tend to never finish and go through a endless cycle of updates to keep it fresh, for what minecraft has settled a trend.
Of course, it isn't *really*. They just kept the title for... reasons.

In one sense, I hope they never finish—not that they should never stop adding biomes: the game must have a finish, with some sort of grand finale—but that once Valheim is "biome-complete," they should begin adding features and details to every biome.
Of course, there is the meta-game: options, different algorithms for world generation, etc. Reaching digital shrink wrap means finishing at least an early version of the meta-game.
After that, they could declare it done and triple the price.
But I hope they don't stop creating new content. And then there is using Valheim's framework to create new games based on other mythologies.
