It's a tricky one.

I play solo, and am more than happy to waste my time sailing around discovering new land: I found Haldor, I found all the bosses, and I found crypts that way.

I also play with a team, and our time together is limited to a few evenings a week. We want to play as a team - we don't all want to go off solo exploring, nor do we want to spend the limited time we have (for example) sailing randomly around to find swamps with crypts in them. (Solo exploring wouldn't be quite so bad if we could share maps, but we can't.)

A solution, of course, is for the game to generate maps that whilst not making it too easy, do provide resources in each of the biome instances. I was lucky in my solo game: I found a swamp area with 20 or so crypts - more than enough for everything I needed - I've also been in reasonable sized swamps with nothing in them.

Using the map generator, we found a suitably sized swamp (with plenty of crypts) - we all sailed together, spent time building a base, and then explored - which was much better than the previous session where we spent 3 fairly boring hours sailing and finding nothing. (One person used the map generator to plot a course - the rest of us played "blind".)

That would actually be a really neat tool, a map generator that rather than giving you precise locations, lets you set up a bunch of requirements in terms of how many of what are within a particular radius from spawn then throws seeds against the wall until some of them stick.

Would be better as a local application than a website though, I wonder if the map.world developers published their worldgen research.

If your browser lets web pages act as key loggers you need to uninstall it yesterday.

That was fixed and a console command to place him in old worlds was added a while back.

Maps, if the seed is copied correctly, will have the same biome placement. Particular items in that biome are RNG generated when you first enter them.. So one might have a crypt in a spot another, map of the same seed, has a stone tower in a black forest.

Yeah site is old news but frankly I have never used it even when stuck and having to play a whole game without finding the trader. To me the whole point is not knowing and exploring to discover biome placement in order to decide where best to build bases for resources and advancing my character. Exposing the whole map from the start would just make me not want to play, it would feel as pointless as starting a new game with all your old stuff and character.

They fixed that months ago, including instructions on how to make sure old worlds had a moder spawn added via a command line. Stop making excuses.

Used the map generator often, I had one seed map that had the trader.
Another seed that had the boss's and left the trophies hanging on the stone alter there saved the hoards of attacks on my own world.
You can use other world seeds legally if you want to use that word and is recomended. Add a new seed for purposes such as gatherings ores.
they appear in the load screen where we can just log in to it and log out go back to our main world. Just give each seed a name you identify with.

Ive used that site a few times and then when we copy the seed and post it for the game they dont come out the same and we couldnt figure out why

im not explore the entire world to know if there are a maypole or not , i just use it for that and guess what , my old world ( created in march ) havent a maypole , so i save a loooot of time of searching :) , obviously before the last patch that u can craft it, that saves my seed

in one of my group games we still can't find the stupid merchant/trader. we've traveled far and wide. and we've even beaten Moder. none of us can figure out how get the seed info from our game (it's hosted on a dedicated server). so instead they had me buy them all headlamps and belts from my solo game.
