I play a heavily modded (about 70 mods atm) that increases the games longevity by a ton. All the mods are working fine multiplayer and play nicely together (I have edited configs to ensure this).

You are welcome to add me and I can guide you through the process and play, I do not see myself going back to vanilla ever again but would enjoy more people to play with (There is about 4 of us with different neurodiversity levels so if Autistic people bother you, do not add me.) Located in AUS hopefully ping isn't an issue; could also migrate the world to a small local dedicated server if enough people want to play it all the time.

We do discord vc sometimes and are adults who are not PC and speak very colourful Australian English.

I would recommend checking out valheim reddit or some decently sized streamers playing valheim and join a community discord, easiest way to find people.

There are LFG forums here on Steam and also on the official Valheim Discord. They work. I've spent time just chatting it up on the discord and jumped in groups with people. If you have RL friends that are willing to play it's much easier. I started this game on release with 3 RL friends, and it was quite the experience. Then I ran it solo, then ran a game with family. Then jumped back in with the OG crew.

It's easy to set up a dedicated server , either hosted or just on a spare box. I started with a spare box server and now currently run a hosted. The sub just auto re-upped for 3 more months, despite the fact that I haven't been playing a lot recently...

Im mainly a solo player but I know what you mean, It can get lonely at times or I miss playing with people. Those I used to play with have all moved on to other games, which is fine and ive gotten used to playing solo.

I'm actually toying with the idea of playing online. Don't know how it would work seeing as most games, the one time i checked, are locked.

Valheim is tougher solo. Not specifically difficulty, just it is a lonely place.

I played A LOT of ARK, maybe 2/3s was solo and I really enjoyed it regardless. But when I first tried Valheim last year, it struck me as something I would really rather play with someone (think I stopped 2 hours in). So I started it again a few weeks ago with a friend and its been a blast. Just killed Moder, so we are ahead of you, but youre welcome to drop in if you would like.
