Training, XP and the Axe Meta

Hello Nords and Danes!!! And I guess Sweades and Samis and more, And maybe a few freed slaves now who see Odin the All Father as the lead. *cough, Athelstan * The ones that hear Thor's' hammer in the storms and feel it in their bones. We that wear the sacred arm bands and sail to glory and gold in shores unknown! Those that seek a fine death if it is to come to us, if lucky. We of Ambitions!!!!! I know some of you don't like that word but we are here to save this land and our future brothers and sisters from things I can't say with out spoiler tags and they confuse me, I am a simple blood lusting and building fiend.

Training. They changed things, kinda of a lot. But. Hear me out.

We should have the ability to do said training and combat training without excessive impediments.

Even in pre food and hearth update IT TOOK AGES TO TRAIN UP, Even with the best set ups. And believe me I sorted it all out. After building my Stave church of course, Hail the all father! I spent hours sorting it out and more working the program and still never hit that god tier 100! You don't need to worry that much Devs. Worry about the hackers and christians [A joke] all first if you are concerned about my few dozen hours testing and working up a few levels of skill. Your death penalty is painful enough for many already. Myself and a compatriot tested the shape of the realm and well. He says disk I still say sphere. But that is a story for another day with a tall drink of mead.

TLDR TLWR [Wont'] Give me Training dummies! And or Wood Training or Bokken weapons, Wasters, Boffer weapons. Call it what you want. That I can use VS players and not have to worry about an accidental kill, least most of the time if used right. {maybe a Player killer tag in game ppl can see at long distance regardless of stealth stance, idk something if your worries are about the rampant murder hobos that found their way to the lofts of Valhiem. And for some reason Odin doesn't saunter over to smack out of the gam,,,e... world, for a few hours. Really let him bi... Slap some jerks now and again, double up the death penalty to drive it home maybe}

Reasoning. ... Vikings spent lots and Lots of time training. From a young age they worked with each other and peers, siblings and fathers and Mothers! We must not forget our valiant Shield Maidens! Both fierce and full of passions. Worthy of respect. Devs you want to reduce XP per hit on a training dummy or with a training type weapon, fine, but give it to me. Let me work my skills or do you want to next strip out XP for jump if you make contact with a build structure. Or swim if no enemy or there is land near by?!?! Or block if the tier of the enemy is 'to low'. Double the durability drop if not hitting a Mob! I Don't Care I want to be able to train my character[s] Make me build and wear training garb, too! Again don't care, Give It Back! Maybe you can't make the items early on but give me them when I have the right stuff. :cozybrawlhalla7:

We can pick random rocks for pick/mining XP not just ORES Do you plan on taking that down too? Or axe XP on shrubs?

At this point all you might have done is make AXES the new meta weapon of choice as we can hack any tree out there to gain XP in that class and will be many many ranks higher in that than any other true weapon by the time we get access to them. You may want to make wood cutting and axes[] fully separate TBH. IF balance or something is you worry here. Hey wood weapons were a real thing, I'd rather be using a wood sword already than the flint axing everything as a T2 weapon. That you can get within 30 minutes no prob more or less making stone axes the briefest of stepping stones.

Dummy and waster weapons, could have levels that relate to the max XP on hit or bonus to a level of X. Some could last longer before we have to rebuild them or fix them up to be worth XP. You could chain Training stuff to match respective progress only wonking in level ranges based off the training gear used. Make it 2 part dummy and weapons need to line up to train a set of levels. If you think that goes against the games intent, you are wrong. A lot of the some of us are not high schoolers or lower with as much free time to waste so if you want the rest of us to 'waste' time in your game you should think about that. The ppl I play with are all graduates of some level. We like Vikings a lot but I have heard each of them lament the lost time some more than others. I don't want to see your game atrophy on sunk costs issues in the long run. Making us able to both train and retain, with a bit of a modifier in our favor for regaining to a level we have meet before. Should soften that bitter mood and reduce rage or depression quits. I Sailed off the world! Then saw my battle brother sighs and quit for the night even when he was the one egging us on to sail to the edge moments before. The XP penalty was part of why we stopped playing weekly some time back. That and the slow down from terrain edits.

I can only hope the seers hear my laments and wishes in these regards before the alchemists and mystics[modders] do it for you and better. Like many other games arguably have had happen to them. Time is valuable, even to us that like to spend it in the small worlds if not more as we have many places, to seek experiences and stories from. Now about time I get back to seeing how stronk I can make my new soul in a new world, without too much suffering of course.

You wanna train? Portal to a greydwarf spawner, place your back to a comfy rock or tree stump and whack away, or let them whack if training blocking. Dwarves too slow, too erratic and dumb? Upgrade your session in a swamp party stone! Triple the spawners, triple the fun!

OP makes a good point that you can still passively train axe skill by smacking the foliage around. That is an odd comparative downgrade on all other weapons.

This is a hell of a read. I give you A for effort and the poetry award.

Not sure what you want though. Training in Valheim is like trying to lift a car, but you only get to lift a 5 pound dumbbell for the entire time. It's going to take so long that you will die before it even matters, and even then, it's so slow that it's almost pointless. Am I doin it rite

I’ve heard this many times, but I still don’t see the need for “training”.

I played the game at a leisurely pace and all the training that I needed took place as I explored my way through the world. Levels were gained, levels were lost. I never felt that I needed to babysit my leveling.

I suppose if you are strapped for time and want to just take on the bosses as quickly as possible then training might make sense for those select players. But my feeling is that is a minority set of players and I doubt that the devs will build specific game functions to support it.
