New world needed after updates??

Hey does anyone know if a new world is needed after an update? I don't want to keep making new worlds every update. Just wondering because I know this past update was big and the next big one might have new biomes.

We got to face the fact that old worlds are slowly dying, especially if playing on it. I'm treating my old world, my only world as one big warehouse setting up portals to every single island, making bases everywhere etc. Hoarding like nuts, draining the islands of loot.

Slowly but surely berry bushes get destroyed by wildlife. There is very little iron on a map compared to what you maybe would want when building large scale high tier.

I would love to use lox to plow through tree saplings, but that mean bye bye berries.

Have not put to much thought on it, but if im not mistaken, with low droprate on oak and birch seeds also fine wood will become depleted.

When i loaded the old world this patch, it took a while to load to add new stuff to older one.

But its probaly a good idea to make a new seed every patch and move the most basic stuff on that world, so you dont lose the rare stuff you collected.

Everything you build will probaly be lost the older the world is.

Depends on the update. For H&H, old worlds were compatible but nothing new would be generated within 500m of explored land.
But it could be that later updates would make older save files incompatible, corrupted etc... it is to be expected with EA games. Even though most devs will work to avoid that, but yea never assume. And always backup your savefiles

A new world is not NEEDED per se, but the new stuff from the plains biome will only spawn in unexplored areas. The devs do recommend starting a new world/character due to the rebalance in food and fighting so you can grow into the new mechanics and balance.

There's a mod, where you can regenerate your world while keeping some manually set areas.

If you're not afraid of using that mod, you can keep your progress while getting all changes even in already discovered terrain.

Uprade World @ Nexus mods
--> https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/1485

edit: if the whole world generator gets changed, e.g. for new bioms, old terrain may not be fitting into the regenerated world though.

odds are for the major update, u need new worlds unless u dont explore at ALL. you stay on your starter island. they like to make old wolrd good unless u dont explore.

i say if u have a favorite seed. save it and use it when the game is done in 2 years.

2 years is an overwhelmingly positive outlook. Optimism comparable to a utopian pipe dream. But sure. Maybe. Guess we'll see.

Unless the developers go back on their word and cut out a massive portion of the content they originally promised to finish. There was, what, five or six updates planned? And the first one took about 10 months to complete? I'd make a rough estimate of approximately 3.5 more years of development if the developers are true to their word about their original intentions.

Then again, it's entirely possible that they've changed their minds about what their intentions are now moving forward. They don't owe you or me or anybody who purchased their game a single thing now. I'm going to assume the worst and say they will only complete one or two more updates before washing their hands of Valheim for good.

Please at least get your maths right, they started work on this update in May, its October now so thats 5 months, not 10, so according to your calculations it ll be 1,5 years XD
