Boat yes albeit glitchy, portal, no -unless using mods.

The mold will continue but if you persevere and stay up in the mountains night after night, you will eventually find one.
I'd advise preparing an area during the day while you wait, and also marking known wolf spawn areas so you will have a rough idea of where to check at night.

If a 1 star can spawn where you are looking, so can a 2 star, trust me. Just have to look at night and be patient until you capture one. I found my first 2 star wolf on my starter island on my old seed and have populated a few areas where they are dominating the whole place.

Just keep looking, you will find one eventually. Good luck.

Additionally, when you *do* find a 2-star and get it penned, DON'T LET IT OUT OF YOUR SIGHT (at least until fully tamed). I finally brought one down from the mountain after several fruitless nights, got him in the pen, started taming, and thought I'd be good with just sitting in the waiting shack I'd built some 15-20 meters away.

Nope. When I got back out to check on progress, he'd despawned. Been a couple weeks of haunting that mountain since, no new 2-stars yet.

On the plus side, I now have quite the stockpile of coal after dealing with all the meat, pelts, fangs and trophies I've accumulated on these trips.

thx for the feedback, i guess ive just been unlucky then and ill just have to go back there once i feel patient enough to stay in one and the same spot for for long

Don't stay in one spot either. The spawn points are always in the same place. Once you find a few on a mountain run from spawn point to spawn point. kill the no star wolves to clear the spawn point and come back again after midnight. It took me several real time days to find a one star wolf and a couple of real time weeks to find a 2 star. I'm over day 1,300 on that world.

Wood walls won't hold a starred wolf. If you double up stake walls you can just barely contain a 1 star. You'll need stone walls and iron gates or a pit for a 2 star unless you know exactly what to do and how to tame a starred wolf.

I always try to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. When you need silver or plan on clearing some frost caves, head to the mountains, fix up a log cabin or keep and plop in a portal. When I go searching for silver, I will take a few deer meat with me, just in case. Dig out the silver when you find it, but don't mine it, use the pit for taming 2 star wolves. Give the silver pits a noticeable icon for your mini map (I use the campfire icon), that way you quickly know where there is a taming pit available once you are chased by a 2 star. Be ready though as 2 star are usually part of a pack of 3 wolves. The key of course is having a shield handy, cause it is not that hard to block/parry back them up into the pit, and hope you see them at range before they see you, so you can take out the non 2 stars.

It was quiet a large mountain area with silver veins in it.

Just has to be night time i think. I found mine on a small mountain on my spawn island. 2 nights in a row i found a 2 star wolf. First time i couldn't trap it before day, second night i got him into my pit.

As long as it is night time and wolves spawn in the area, you should be able to find one. I don't think they can spawn 2 star during the day.

yeah ive got to reach the bigger mountains then because i never saw a single star through several nights in a row
