Boat dock question
1st go at this. Yes its a big ugly. I am worried about it drifting away, or getting broke up bouncing up and down against side by side piers when a storm comes.
What I did is pinned it in place with cross beams that keep it from rising and falling. See bottom pic. Now in real life I think this would be a bad idea. If sea level rose enough, boat would fill with water and sink. IN the game though, mechanics are different. My question is will this work out in the game? Keep it from getting smashed by waves or pier?
At least if it goes down, all my nails will be in shallow water, lol The game needs some rope.

sometimes i destroy the boat and put resources in a chest. unless i'm in a hurry\forgetful.
and if i'm exploring and there is a chance that i'll need to run away asap...then i just ram the shore (in those situations you will not be away long enough to damage the boat to destruction...and you'll repair in your next stop)
...as for my proper docks...

Like the docks. Now I get the idea. Let mine be an example of what not to do, haha.
@Lenny Rat - good to know they won't drift way. I'm destroying my boat and will dig bottom out like you said. It is shallow where it sits now. Not sure if this is low or high water. Next storm shouldn't be long in this game.

One idea you might consider is digging a channel inland a bit and build your dock/boathouse around it. The wave action diminishes the further inland you go. I had noticed a moat at a base near the sea had minimal water level changes when the nearby ocean was going bonkers. I dug a channel a few Karve lengths inland and the water level at the end had much reduced fluctuation during storms. People on the forum confirmed this 'feature'.
Digging a few test holes could give you some gauge of the effect.

i think your dock is fine too. a little bit of decorations\chests and a roof, and it'll be great. Like the docks. Now I get the idea. Let mine be an example of what not to do, haha.

and actually you can use doors(half doors works best) to hold the boat if you're so afraid of it drifting away

Nice, will experiment later. I was able to move the boat out 4 meters or so. The bow is in swim depth at least. Made the shorter dock longer cause it looks more natural with piers on both sides the length of the boat. I only get 1 shaman or brute each night trying to get in around fence that goes into sea. So far they just sit there and growl on the rock.
Oh and I tried to destroy the boat 1st. Made sure it was 100% repair, clicked middle button same as for destroying lumber and nothing happened. Its late foe me, so that might be part of it. It should be alright. I'll back up the files before digging up the channel just in case I nacker something.
I'll just hang out until the next storm hits and see what the water level does before and after.

Dug its channel in about 10 meters. Don't have room for anymore. It had minor damage after a storm but looks like it could take 6 stormy days in a row if need be. May cover part of this at some point. Wish I didn't have to repair the dock like it is. It lasts a long time before it starts falling apart though. They could add creosote for docks and then its water proof for 600 days :D

Firstly, boats don’t drift off. Once you exit them, they stay put.
Second, the water will move up and down, so if the water is TOO shallow you will gain damage from hitting bottom.
When I build a dock, I dig it out on tippy-toe until I can no longer touch bottom. That is not so deep that you cannot recover materials and deep enough not to hit bottom.
I never worry about holding the top of the ship down. Frankly, once the storm is over you will take a little damage from rubbing against the dock, but one swing of the hammer will repair it.
