There are wrecked boats in black forest shore that gives you 40 fine wood , the problem is that are rare
Or as other said , baiting a troll to chop these trees

troll logging and log rolling
but i honestly prefer the usual axe method

troll logging - just let a troll do the work
log rolling - roll a log against the tree as often as possible not allways reliable but it works

The best way to do this is looking for meadow biomes with steep alpines where trees are located, so when you cut one down, the hill will automatically try to roll the other ones down.

It's usually best to try to force the trees to fall in a direction, maybe build structures to grip the side of the tree you don't want to fall down on?

Falling trees does not outright destroy a structure so you could also force trees to roll in a specific direction on top of one another down a hill maybe, using the sloped beams.

Also, a field of fallen logs makes for a awesome pathfinding blocking against monsters in general, they don't attack it like structures when it blocks their way of getting to your base.

I wish we could harpoon or grab logs and transport them as is, to make traps out of them...

I also do this almost every time, because it's fun and allows me to skip the first bow. :steamhappy:

Rolling logs to smash them into birches or even oaks over and over... almost makes me want to start a new world.

If you mean having other trees fall on them, then yeah, OR having a troll swing at you and hit the tree instead. It works but sure not very efficient.

I just thought it was cool that you could have a way of getting hard wood early on in the game.
