Do 1-2 Star Tamed Wolves Still Despawn?
Hi all! My partner and I have been working on trying to tame a 1 or 2 star wolf. We learned the hard way that leaving them after trapping them with meat results in them despawning, unlike with our other wolves when we were taming them. He read a post from a few months back that tamed 1-2 star wolves can still despawn during the day if the player gets too far away from them. So here's my questions.
1. Can 1-2 star wolves still despawn while being tamed? If they're at, say, even 1% tamed will they no longer be at risk of despawning?
2. Can 1-2 star wolves still despawn after being fully tamed?
3. Will the 1-2 star offspring of tamed 1-2 star wolves be at risk of despawning?
Currently, the plan is to get at least one 1-2 star wolf and then breed it with our plain wolves until we can get an established 1-2 star line going. Any help/advice is appreciated, thanks!

I've got about 20 two star wolves. It started with just one (and a 1 star). I dug a pit next to a cozy shack I built in the mountains. I think I had 5 single meats in the pit, I just sat in my shack (next to the pit) and watched youtube videos till I heard the "wolf has been tamed" chime.
Once they are tamed I just fill the pit and the wolf rises up with the dirt. Once I had 2, two stars I just killed the 1 star. Its been nothing but 2 stars ever since.

For the record, they aren't despawning. Had this same incident where my gf and I ported away after trapping a 2-star wolf and then it was gone (with no damage to the pen) when we got back. Found him back on the mountain in the same spot that we first encountered him. So try checking the mountain/area you got them from.

Take a full stack of raw meat and fully tame the 2 star before leaving. Shouldn't despawn after being tamed. Even though there use to be a bug like that.

I have seen both, after it got fixed. First one despawned, and I lost it after capture, and the second one I actually was able to tame, so, yeah.
1. Technically yes, but also no, so not sure what happened with my case, but they don't despawn if you do manage to capture one, so it can be done. Also night wolves now continue to tame during the day, can confirm.
2. No, not at least if you are prepared and have a mate for said wolf (even if it is just a no star wolf, you can still get a chance of a star wolf cub from that breed). Besides, first thing you do after you tame the wolf is probably going to be given the follow command, after that, you can take them wherever you need to take them too, so that shouldn't be too much of an issue.
3. No, in any case, they never despawn any cub offspring from any wolf you tamed, will not despawn, those cubs are keepers, so look after them.
Also just a disclaimer, if you tame 2 of any star parent wolves, (eg a one star & a 2 star) they always make another star wolf cub, just takes a while to get specific star type.
Also, it helps to scout out wolf spawns during the day, (preferably when sunny & no blizzard) to mark on the map so you know where to look when it is night time, so you can go around & check the spawns to see where any 1 or 2 star wolves are. Another tip of mine is to take a harpoon, so you can set them to follow you, and then harpoon them out of the pit (if you dug a pit) after they are tamed.
And one more thing. If you dig a pit to capture a star wolf into, and you are able to kite them to the edge of the pit without attacking them, don't be afraid to whack them once just to stun them, then use your shield to push them into the pit, and throw the meat in there with them, as they regain health again from eating anyway.
Hope this helps, good luck.

They have despawned on me if I let them out of sight at all (when they were night spawns). First I was leading a 1 star to a pen I built to tame it, and it disappeared from behind my back, trying to bite me. I went back to the spawn point the following evening and waited until night to locate it and try again. It worked fine.
When I encountered a 2 star wolf, I had no meat with me, but neither did my husband. Again we returned to the spot where we saw it, and I made a taming pit for it. A blizzard that lasted most of the night meant the 2 star wolf spawned very close to dawn. There was just enough time to get him into the pit and drop in some food. But then it became morning and the wolf didn't take any food first.
He wasn't taming at all, and I wasn't taking any chances! I found a location far enough away to crouch and keep it from seeing me, but it didn't do anything if it did see me (indicated by my sneaking status). We never left that spot, but rather helped each other maintain our rested bonus while watching that wolf constantly. We had a cave and campfire about 80 m away, and took turns watching when the other needed to rest.
The wolf didn't even eat until nightfall, but then the taming process began. I knew for sure we had to keep up our routine until the wolf was fully tamed, which took that team effort.
I think that if you do it solo, you would be better off losing your rested bonus and doing nothing but watch the wolf until it's tamed.
The wolf, once tamed, never despawned. It behaved like all our other tamed wolves.
TL/DR Untamed wolves will despawn if they were spawned at night and you let them out of your site before starting the taming process, or you go away while they are taming. After they're tamed, they will not despawn or behave any different than your other tamed wolves.
EDIT for spelling

Wolves, in general, do fine if captured during the day and not part of "You are being hunted". Whatever spawns at night is very likely to disappear at daybreak or when you leave the cell. I was able to breed a couple of 1-star wolves, no problem. The one 2-star wolf I bothered to capture was a nightspawn and disappeared.
Those critters still despawn, so make sure to catch creatures during the day.
At one base I'm using a quarry to capture Greydwarfs. Even with them only those from
the day remain.

was taming my first 2 star this morning. got it in the pen just as the sun was coming up. i'd had a one star the other day, and as soon as i got maybe 50 meters away during the day it despawned, despite having begun the taming process. so this time i stayed in sight of the wolf. even though it wasn't frightened, it would not even begin to eat and start the taming process until the next night. the entire day it would try to stay as far from me as possible, always moving to the opposite side of the pen. once night came and it ate, it began to tame as usual. i still stayed in visual sight of it & it took two day night cycles, i think about double the regular wolves. once it was fully tamed it didn't despawn, but i have also not let it out of the pen for fear it may still run off. my understanding is that once you have the 2 star offspring, those offspring behave as usual without the risk of despawning.

I have well over 60 2star wolves.
It's my understanding that while taming them if you abandon them, they will despawn.
Once tamed, interacting them toggles them from "stay" and "follow". They will never despawn.
They may be in a limbo state when you breed them. Where they have no "stay" or "follow" command so they kinda wander. Same when they are cubs. This can lead to wandering tamed wolf packs that clear out your woods and auto breed after killing dear/boars.
Pretty sure 2stars only spawn at night. Took me several to get a single one to spawn. Taming process worked day or night. I stayed just outside of agro range so that he'd eat and tame.
