Relaxing
I haven't played much in about 14 or 15 months but I did very much enjoy building the bases and doing the runs. I also very much liked the music. I built 7 or so main bases and another 3 or 4 smaller ones all supported by the portals. I have a lot of gardens and such but did not tame anything as I could shoot it all day with my super bow. I think though, if I am not mistaken that the foods don't give nearly so much a buff as they did when last I played. Is that the case.

Hi Johnrj6: I know what you mean and yes partially correct. The Hearth and Home Electricdawn references did skew the foods but the max points have not exactly gone down. instead of say (Using example numbers only) +50 health & sta a food now is slanted ot give either +50 Health and a lesser stamina (red fork) or +50 Stamina and a lesser amount of health (Yellow fork). A few are still equal on both (white fork symbol on the icon)
So you can usually get the same final numbers you were used to but will need to juggle the food types a bit more than the rather simple options of before.

Yeah, food values were made to be more specialized so most foods have a 75:25 ratio between HP and Stam. Sometimes they’re HP focused, sometimes they’re Stam focused. There’s also the jerky you can make that is more even between the two. This means that you can choose to focus more on being a tank with tons of HP or focus more on speed and dodge with higher Stamina.
This helps keep more variety in your foods as your needs change. If you’re doing some casual mining, some Hp but more stamina would likely be your preference. If you’re just building at your home, full Stam is probably best. It really comes down to what you’re doing and which stat is more important. This way you’re not just making the same three best things and instead mix things up to change the balance of what you’re getting from each. I’m a personal fan of jerky as it is long lasting and great for casual use as the materials are easily abundant if you’re taming animals.

Started after Hearth and Home, so I really can't vouch for this, but, yes, they did indeed change the food system. I have no issues with it and get along fine. You might just want to give it a try.
I recommend starting a new world and character just in case. If you decide to use your old world, I would recommend running the "optterrain" command from the console the first time you're in the middle of your build sites. This fixes some crashing and low fps issues in heavily modified terrain areas.
It is further highly recommended to completely uninstall the game and reinstall from scratch if you haven't played in a while. There seems to be a problem with games that just got updated and not being freshly installed.
Happy building and hunting!
