I couldn't figure out how to get mobs to stop spawning..
So I did the most sensible thing i could think of and bred a buncha wolves all over my base. The Howling is nonstop.

Calling people liars because you can't get something to work is not nice. Yall some damn liars XD I got workbenches and Wards all over the place and nothing seems to work
You have to make sure that there are no gaps in the coverage - I was pulling my hair out trying to work out why I was still getting spawns. I eventually found a tiny gap between the coverage areas of 3 Workbenches that was enough to let it happen. You also need to make sure that they can't wander into the area from outside.
People use Workbenches because you can see the circle of effect - once you've got the coverage right, you can replace them with (unlit) torches (or other things that you can then bury).

Wards have the same 20m no spawn radius as a workbench, but protect in a 32m radius.
Sounds like some of you may not have turned your wards on....
Directly from the wiki: If your buildings are attacked by an enemy creature within the wards radius, a circular dome around the area will pulsate in blue for each attack the enemy creature carries out on your buildings.

Bees will actually attack mobs if those mobs are attacking close enough tot he bees.
A friend of mine noticed this and surrounded his base with beehives and then an outer layer of 45 degree pikes right up against the beehives.
Now whenever he logs in he makes a round repairing and picking up all the honey and left over loot.

Wards dont do any damage to NPC's lol. I have found that Wards also provide a "hit back" at the attacker. I see the blue pulse when at my Meadow Base and hear the sound. Then I go around the perimeter and find the remains. Especially if it is Greylings, the Wards seem to wipe them out pretty quick. Wards are definitely worth having even in single-player.
Well then something is wrong with my game because I have Greylings attack the stone walls around my Bees, Boars and Wolves Pens quite often and when I hover the reticle over the Greylings they have already taken damage and there are some remains already on the ground. As I watched, neither Boar nor Wolf can get to the Greylings nor was attacking them. They just ran around alarmed. Since the Greylings are not being attacked by other beings then what is killing them consistently as they set off the Ward pulse?I have found that Wards also provide a "hit back" at the attacker. Wards don't do that. They prevent other players from opening stuff or constructing/deconstructing. They don't offer damage protection. They don't do damage. They pulse and chime if any object in the wards radius is damaged (even for 0 damage). They provide the standard no spawn zone.

If its that commom. Can you record some of this happening? Preferrably inluding 5 minutes before and after content so we can put it in context.Wards dont do any damage to NPC's lol.Well then something is wrong with my game because I have Greylings attack the stone walls around my Bees, Boars and Wolves Pens quite often and when I hover the reticle over the Greylings they have already taken damage and there are some remains already on the ground. The way mobs spawn is atrocious and ruins my immersion within the game. They auto spawn in very close vicinity to you and will auto attack and detect you,it's very lame scripting.
It is is always based on whee you are and doesn't look realistic or immersive.
Grab a pick and start picking and within seconds the game auto spawns the goofy mobs to attack you but more like to annoy you.
I don't waste time with guard dogs ,never needed them, instead o just curse the developer every time i see these lame spawns.
I want spawns to change so bad it is tilting when i play.

It is lame scripting or simply magical beings in a purgatory-like realm that you enter after death showing up to make your afterlife difficult?
This, and so do wards and several other things.
