Invasion question

Hi

I am new to the game and am in the bronze age now and found the "Swamp".
My question is about the invasion of my main base where I have most of my collected stuff!
Does my progress in the game increase the pace or difficulty?

My base right now is close to the sea with and island directly across as you can see and on the inner side there is a large space between the base and the forest.

So far there have been a few raids to my base, but there are only gray dwarves and similar mobs. No trolls or anything else that can do any major damage.

How should I think and what does the future look like? Can the enemy cross the lake and attack from there too?
Can there be raids when I'm not there so you get home to a destroyed base?

yes to all this... im a bit lazier and use the 20* roof and with two side by side can get a cart up if you need... Also by using 3 in on an incline just destroy the middle one and jump when u dont need a cart they never degrade to 50% bcos they are roofing :-)

You wont get invaded when you are not at home, or any base but the longer you are in a area that has a campfire + bench + bed will increase the chance to trigger an invasion.
The different invasions are controlled by bosses killed and mobs killed, like when you kill the 1st boss you get greys, if you take out a troll you could trigger troll events and when you kill the 2nd you could trigger swamp events.
Some events trigger in a specific area like wolves in the mountains even without the usual equipment, its a you are in a specific area trigger.

Event mobs invading your bases have a spawn circle and the mobs will try spawn at the edges, but limiting the space may make them spawn closer, or underwater.

The mobs involved in the raids depend upon your progression with the game bosses. Basically, when you kill one, enemies from the next level start raiding you.
The good news are that the raids will trigger relative to your own location at their start rather than relative to your base.
They are also more interested in killing you or anything alive that you have, such as bees, boars, wolves or loxes. So, a "dead" base is not as interesting as a "living" one.
The bad news are that they can swim or wade from the direction of the sea as well in order to try to get around your walls.

Edit: And yes, the raids also depend upon what mobs you have gone against plus some only trigger in certain areas, as Flare said.
