Any tips for building high with stone??
hey Guys, I want to build a reaaaaaaallllly high tower with Stone like LotR Barad-Dur, but at Some point I cant get any higher, despite using Iron beams as support. Any Useful Tips? pls help. Thx in advance...

or should you just be stoned when you're building high 🤔🤔🤔🤔 you should be high no matter what building material you are using.. but yes, you should definitely be high when building with stone.. that's my tip..

you can raise some things (berry bushes, smaller rocks, trees, more) with terrain raise, but can you do the giant plains rocks with that... if so, do that too... I have not tried.
I'm not certain but I don't think so, I believe you'll just end up burying the rock. Also I don't think you can raise ground on top of rock. You can raise ground up and over rock but you can't raise ground directly on top of rock. It would also be nice if you could plant trees on top of rock but you can't.
Building with rock on rock works well. Rock walls embed nicely in rock. I do this regularly to square and level off the tops of rock pillars in the plains prior to building on them. It takes LOTS of stone to do that, though.

Thanks ;) That is great, really like the tower beacons
Like someone above said, a tree inside can form a tall anchor. It is funny because it can still sway in the win but your structure won't.
Unfortunately, nothing grows or can be planted in the Deep North...
Then again, just as with Mistlands and Ashlands, this is a future biome that will be developed eventually and things may change ;)

That's why you just use admin commands to place such things as an alternative.

Combine all the techniques.
1. Go to the plains. Find one of those colossal stone pillars on top of a hill.
2. Build on top in stone reinforced with iron poles as high as possible.
3. Switch to wood to build higher. Wood placed on red stone will be blue allowing you to go up from there.
3a. On or near the top, build a portal paired with one at the base so you don't have to physically climb the damn thing every time you go up or down.
I have never tried this (yet). I wonder if you can get it so tall that the top won't even render in from the base.

I had a similar goal in mind, but that also included being able to place a bonfire at the top. This meant I got a sufficiently tall beacon tower, if not "reaaaaaaallllly high" ;)

The height of any structure is limited by the distance from the natural terrain it is built on. So, in order to build higher, the trick is to raise the terrain as high as possible within the structure in order to raise the height limit ;)
It's not Barad-Dur, but it means that my puny initial attempt...

... looked a lot better and worked for me once I raised it using the technique above ;)

This works for me as I can see this from miles away and can easily navigate the Deep North waters and find my safe harbour without having to constantly navigate via the mini-map ;)

One of those huge stone rocks in the plains would be a good foundation for such a project. If you not want to build in plains, then plant a tree (those high ones from black forest) and build around it. Only thing you have to deal with is the crown of the tree, how to integrate it in your build. Maybe an in-house garden area or something like that.
Happy building!

terrain anchors and iron are the keys.
Here, I made V shaped large rock walls with a raised terrain spike in the middle. That puts the 'ground' dark blue rocks at the first balcony level, but the inside of those is hollow and livable space. That gives 10 units (5 stone columns) tall for 'free'. Out of the ground I have iron supports all the way up to the topmost rocks.

to go higher than this, you have to use a tree, natural cliffside (like build up a mountain), or those giant tall rocks etc. I didn't use any of those this time. My topmost layer required going a bit nuts with support; you can see one column is missing in the screenshot (I got it fixed, using 4 iron gates up that wall gave just enough extra to hold it).
'twisting' seems to help. That is, don't stack one on top of another, but shift so that the one above is sitting on two below. I didn't realize that was helping (or seeming to) until later, so mine are stacked. That might get one more level, not 100% sure. Even if it does not get you a level, it lets you knock a wall down without anything above falling apart, if you need to adjust something.
be prepared: This is a relatively thin tower (the rooms are diameter 5 floor tiles or just under) and I used a good 500 iron (many of my floors are rock though, and those need supports, if you use wood floors you may cut the number some).

Unless you want to use spawn commands for spawning in a specific heights rocks and then hiding them inside the architecture of the building or building around a large tree and hiding it in the architecture of the building then you have to stick with the building limits already in place.

Careful snapping to a fixed grid structure is important. Stone does not accept being slightly embedded in other stone as valid support, it has to be a clean face to face connection.

The absolute tallest off the ground, I suppose, would be this:
1) clear a very large flatish area to the bedrock with your pick.
2) raise terrain support spikes according to your floorplan
3) plant the tallest tree (pine?) at the top of the spikes.
that gives you 20 units tall of ground, + whatever the trees give, at a guess another 30 units?, + natural supported building max height (yet another 30-40)
for a grand total (?) of 80-90 or so units (45 stone columns) tall.
If that won't do, plains rock centerpiece it is... or up side of mountain..

Anything that touches the ground, a tree or a big boulder will reset the structure strength.
Use the hoe to build gigantic ground pillars for support.
Planting trees is a fragile, but tall option.
The swamp has gigantic ancient trees that can't be cut down.
The plains has gigantic stone pillars that can break.
A mountain cliff is an opportunity to anchor against a wall.
The strongest skeletons are built from iron doors or iron wood beams. Either way is roughly equal, but the doors can be easier to set up.
