finding copper

not necessarily new to the game but I like to go slow. At a point where I need copper deposits to further refine my armor. Have wander the blk forests aimlessly, kill a lot of creatures but am finding copper a very scarce commodity., even resorted to grid pattern search in one are. I know where to find tin but is there a secret to finding copper that I haven't found yet?

Copper is freaking everywhere in the black forest.
If you cant find copper.. it's because you are not looking.

Try finding a larger black forest, if your forest is smaller then it may only have a few spawns but copper is pretty common. You may be confusing copper for rocks.

If you check out every large rock, you should spot one within 60 seconds of walking in most large forests. Its rather common most of the time. Its hard to spot vs a big rock, so you have to go mouse over each candidate. If your forest is too small or lacking, find another, that is unusual. 3-4 fully mined rocks should be all you need for quite some time; later you may want more for light fixtures.

It's the green with yellow streaks boulders, they're really large, like the other kinda flat boulders that litter the black forest.

If you already found 1, dig down. There are a lot more small copper rocks in the ground below the big green rocks on the surface.

In case you didn't know, copper boulders are actually a lot larger than what you see on the surface. After picking at the copper boulder, continue downward into the ground. You will find that copper mining will take out an entire area, leaving a huge crater in its aftermath.

Besides that, it's quite randomly generated along with the world. So far, I've had very little trouble finding copper ore in the Black Forest. They usually appear somewhat close to each other, about a few dozen feet apart. They usually appear more in the depths of the forest, than the outskirts. I don't think I had ever found any in the outskirts.

Also, they are at times hard to spot. Basically, they look like normal stone boulders, except upon closer inspection, they have subtle brown-yellowish veins on them.

I am saying if you find a copper boulder, don't stop after you finish picking it apart on the surface. Keep digging into the earth because the copper boulder is actually quite a lot larger than what you see on the surface. From memory, I believe it's about 200% larger than what you see on the surface.

Don't go randomly digging for copper ore if you don't see them visually. ^_^

Copper can be very plentiful or scarce .. it really is RNG.
I scout my worlds before I commit to a base location. For Black Forest for Bronze I will look for an area with 5 or 6 copper nodes near each other close to a shore for tin.

But scouting and building a base there I avoid having to search the map for some copper.

You can apply this logic to any further development as well. Like finding a copper node to set up a refining base next to a swamp with lots of crypts.

You can even find copper nodes that are more than one big boulder. Multiple may be attached to the one on the surface. Always a good idea to excavate the area to make sure you get it all.
