Anchoring ships?

Is there any way or any plans to add a feature to anchor ships? it makes exploring with a longboat a chore, most of the time is spent finding a weird glitchy way to stop the ship floating away from shore.

? If you get out of the boat it just stops dead in the water and won't move, think that counts as being anchored.

Just run it into the shore, then push it away when you get out. You will be sure it stopped when you get out and it won't float away after you stop pushing it.

the very moment the ship has no player on it anymore it comes to an instant and complete halt.

that should help you a bit

Must be a bug, the second I jump off my ship it stops moving. An anchor would be nice though.

I agree. I'm pretty sure I lost one ship to it floating away and its incredibly annoying to try and land.

Ours gets dragged out by waves all the time, are you 100% sure yours doesn't?

I played for 100+ hours and I never had my ships float away. I lost 2 of them tho, when they were too close to shore and some monster destroyed them.

Oh okay, I dunno, we haven't ever actually had it float out all the way because we stop it before that happens, maybe it's some weird optical illusion because of the waves or something lol

It is possible because waves are huge during storms. It might also be because of the ship hitting the ground/rocks when there are huge waves, which might make it move a bit.

I think that's exactly what it is. :)

Yea lol stopping the longship is always a clutch task. Sure it can take some damage hitting the shore/dock but being clunky with your boat parking isnt very viking-like

Ships do not move across the water surface on their own regardless of the weather. The only possible way it can is if it hits something pretty hard, but then you have more important things to worry about.

This. Bear in mind, if you stop steering but remain -on- the boat, it will still drift. And don't jump off when the sail is up!

As long as you run it aground it tends to stay put. It might get pushed around a bit from stray mobs attacking it or moving into it and maybe a really hard storm will move it a little, but you should at least be able to swim to it if you rammed it snug to the shore. If something breaks it, it should drop the mats to make another as long as the water is deep enough to walk in.

I made a point to level swimming a bit before I ever made a boat. It helps. Also making a workbench as soon as you jump off can help deter mobs bumping into it or attacking it.

The biggest issue is when your dock doesn't have a repair bench and your base is a short walk away and you get busy building, crafting, tending the farm -what have you, and your boat ends up being broken for "no reason" when the reason is that the hostile mobs broke it. The good thing about that scenario is that if you play with sound on the boat makes crunchy noises when it's being attacked, so you do have some warning.
