extremely low quality shadows and models/meshes

is this just how the game is? creating a character, and my guy has shadows that look like minecraft blocks all over him as well as extremely low resolution textures that look like some PS2 level stuff. to futher that, vegetation seems to be entirely made of mincraft blocks. got all in game settings maxed, and the game runs terribly with no change in performance based on my resolution (or even a visual change, so pretty sure the resolution option is fake). looks the same on vulkan and not, and runs the same.

is there some "modern era texture and model pack" or something i need to download seperately? i figured it was going to look terrible once i saw the 1gb file size, but i didnt think it would be so bad that its literally on par with late ps1/early ps2 games, but with a bunch of post processing thrown on top.

I have played games with top quality graphics with gameplay, and minecraft you can add shaders. Valheim is in its own
artistic steps? son i did grow up in the 90s. ive watched as game evolved from a handful of barely intelligable pixels to todays standard, and what i see in this game is VERY common of low effort games these days. step 1: put no effort into models or textures. step 2: plaster a metric ton of post processing, and let the engine someone else built try to make everything look better than it is with their lighting engine. step 3: call yourself "indie" and watch people flock to your game for literally no reason. thanks for convincing me to get my money back.

high quality textures are niether difficult nor expensive to make. the same is true for models and meshes. if they were, we wouldnt have singular people churning out HD texture mods for tons of games, or HD mesh/model mods. this is just pure laziness and cutting of corners. things dont have to be "photorealistic", but if the textures look like a ps1 game, and the models are even lower quality, as is the case here, its outright repugnant to look at. the reason for the games terrible performance is in fact the heavy useage of post processing effects, which dont even look good TBH and just blur everything except the shadows, which look like blocky minecraft shadows because the models and meshes are all blocky ps1 models and meshes.

The load screen is the worst case of the pixel blocks. The close up with the fire amplifies that. Once in game, most of your views are at least 10 meters away and then it all blends together to look nice.

"Today's Standard" is a hodgepodge of games that prioritize graphics over gameplay while indie devs pick up the slack and remember that pixels are fine as long as the game is fun to play. I'll take GAMEplay when I'm playing a video game over graphics any day.

Look at ARK. The game has higer res textures and models but looks janky and plays like crap.

I love the gameplay. I have not thought for a second "This game has bad graphics, I wish I refunded it". And it doesn't have to cost a lot to be considered "art". And art is VERY expensive, ESPECIALLY for indie teams who don't have the money to pay for entire art teams with art directors. They still did an amazing job with the art regardless of the money constraints.

This is the saddest thing I've read on this forum yet. "literally for no reason"? the reason is that it's a fun game and a fresh new experience, and potential hundreds of hours of fun. i don't understand why you have this weird mindset that you must pick at this game solely due to its art direction. I also think I should stop wasting my time trying to convince you otherwise, because you clearly have some underlying reason for your constant complaints about something so minor that no one else seems to have a problem with

I love how the game looks. It's an artstyle. What were you expecting when getting the game?

Models and resolution is just fine, the problem is YOU. Oh, and the graphics slider works just fine.

Lastly, the game runs just fine, no lag, all fun.

So you bought the game without even looking at the screenshots on the store page?

That's what I assume when I see people mindlessly complain about "da grafics"
