Do boars need shelter?
I have recently tamed my first boar and while working on a project near my base a storm picked up. when i went back to base to repair some tools my boar was nearly dead. there is also a piece of resin near his pen. I don't know if the storm is hurting him or if he killed a greyling while I was away.

Aye dragons are one thing but I don't think IG fully appreciate the efficiency of the piggy blender they made out of bats. Against players armored for the mountains bats are only an annoyance, but as a raid they might as well be a meteorite strike.

I haven't needed to make a shelter for my boars yet, but if you get aerial attacks, they're gonna die.

Copy and pasted from a reddit post by a redditer named "Builder"
"FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PEOPLE, COVER YOUR BOAR PENS. I'd only just started exploring the frost caves when I went to my boar farm and a "You Stirred The Cauldron" event triggered. I had over 20 two-star boars and piggies in a simple pen. The bat swarm descended. Not only are they virtually impossible to hit, there are so many that there's virtually nothing you can do before they kill your entire herd. I'm now left with one nearly dead piggy. I'm turning that boar pen into a fortified ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ castle now."

that has nothing to do with my question but it is very helpful advice and I appreciate it :-D Growing Turnips in the boar pen allows you to unearth as many turnips as you want and have them right there ready to feed the boars. Luckily Boars don't eat growing turnips so however hungry they are, your turnips are safe until you release them from the ground.
Happy to help ... saved me room once I realised I could combine the boars and plants.

not the storm.. mobs can spawn outside built structures and wander in to base area.. workbenches etc suppress mob spawn within their action radius.. so use these as a guide and prepare defenses to exclude ground mobs ..

The most violent storm will not damage tamed creatures in the slightest. A single globule of resin is most definitely the remains of a Greyling your boar killed. Keeping your boar/s behind earthen walls with full antispawn items such as workbenches can definitely increase your animals' security. Two star boar can kill Greylings with little or no loss of health, and keeping tamed wolves and boars together is another extremely beneficial option.

I had a barn with open windows and 4 pairs of 2 star boars and their piglets nearly completely wiped out by the "you've stirred the Cauldron" even. I quickly replace the open windows with crystal.

After the third boss, you will need a roof. After the mountain caves you will need Ft. Knox.

Greylings and other enemies will attack tamed boars. I make shelters for mine. And, after a mountain event, make sure to put roofs on them too.

He probably killed a grayling. Base raids specifically target you, then livestock/gardens, then structures. If you put up high walls so that enemies can't see your livestock/gardens they won't get attacked. Trolls can see over high walls and they can throw rocks and break even stone walls but if you put a roof over your livestock the attacking creatures can't see them and won't attack them until after they poke a hole in your structure(s).
