Is the game as good as they say?
Saw it was on sale and was wanting to play with friends. Anything cool you can tell me about the game? How would you rate it?

Valheim is a fantastic EA game. I'm having a wonderful time playing solo. You will absolutely get your money's worth and then some.
Is it grindy? Maybe, if you mine all of the ore that you can find, whether you need it or not, and ditto every other resource. As for standing somewhere clicking on the mouse, the only time that has a chance to get dull is when you are in a safe area, otherwise you will be attacked, and that is always fun. The lesser mobs attack in bunches, which can be dangerous, but with good weapons you can have a great time laying waste to them. Moreover, the stuff you need most is always in the biome that is most dangerous to go to.
There are some bugs, but no show-stoppers. For contrast, I can reliably make Civilization VI crash hard and take Windows down with it just by trying to invoke the desktop. As for Skyrim, don't get me started. Valheim doesn't think it owns my computer and I've had no lockups.
The graphics are deliberately retro in that the polys are big, but the use of color makes you feel you're walking around in an impressionist landscape, and that landscape is a huge open world with scenery to die for. And don't worry; you will.

I HIGHLY recommend it. In terms of the combat, the building, terraforming, customization, cooking, etc. there are games that have done these things at least slightly better than Valheim, but I can't think of one of them that hits as many of the key survival gameplay notes with such competency. There just isn't really anything that this game does badly. Everything is good. The combat is good, the exploration is good, the building is good, the decorating is good, the character customization is a bit lacking but that'll develop more as more content comes out. Pretty much everything about this game qualifies as "good". When you add all that up, it turns out to be a GREAT game. Like GotY material.

Game sold milions of copies in first few weeks of launch, now it has 34k players peak. That should tell you enough.
Valheim is still in the top 57 most played games on steam, 10 months after its release. So, yes, that says enough about this indie game developed by 5 person : It's a nugget.
Thank you for not making a false statement. It's very annoying. When a horse is white, it is said to be white, not black.

its definitely worth the price. if you dont get at least your money's worth out of this game, youd be insane, and this is coming from me who barely ever can manage to fully enjoy 100% of a game.

Best game ever if you like open world games. You can play co-op with friends or alone.
You won't regret buying it

Its also good for singleplayer. I have over 700 hours of singleplayer experience and this is the first survival game that kept me playing for longer than 20 hours.

Easily worth the price. It's amazing solo, and playing with friends makes it even better. There is a lot of fun stuff you can do together, especially if you're creative or easily amused (like my friends and I are xD ).

Over 240,000 overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam is a pretty great indicator, as for me its the best $20 I ever spent on a game and I'm 750 + hours playing so far.

If you don't want to be disappointed, at the very worst, you can consider it as an exploration/ambiance/collect everything/creative building/co-op/solo open world game that you won't know it's still under development. Now say your price.
As a bonus, there could be some crafting, some fighting, and some sense of progression.

I have played a lot of survival / sandbox games, this is my favorite playstyle. And I can tell you this one is the best I've played. Everything is wonderfully well thought out, everything has a utility, everything fits together perfectly. The game is simply smart in all its aspects.
Graphically it's surprisingly beautiful, the weather and the lights are amazing. In short, for me, it's the best sandbox on the market.

Not a good game. Give it first 2 hours if you like it then refund it if you don't. I tried my best liking the game for 16 hours but it felt dull. Not knowing what you can craft is stupid. Graphics aren't the best the monsters feel like they're made for 12 year olds. Skeletons with shields don't bother using them. Lot of grinding, lot of unfinished and empty areas. It's a 10/10 for about 20 hours or so. When the problems start appearing they quickly snowball and the game ended up a ~6/10 for me.

It's a small group co-op game in a very similar state to Minecraft at its peak. (If Minecraft had way better combat mechanics!) Still a bit janky and only about half the world is programmed right now, but it's a fantastic little adventure of discovery for 2 - 4 players, especially if some of you are into base building. Supports direct P2P multiplayer via Steam or running your own dedicated server with very low hardware needs. Expansive modding potential, people have already added Diablo style random magic gear, the raft from Raft, and a drivable monster truck. Visually it's the prettiest Playstation 2 title you've ever seen.

Fun game (especially with friends), beautiful art style and lighting, OK combat system though a bit harsh with the stamina, very nice building system (and quite addictive I might add). Boss fights are fun, but easily cheesable.
The big minus however is that it is way too grindy on gathering resources, without a satisfying reward or progression curve to justify the grind. The first biome is fun and it constitutes a nice intro, but once you get a pickaxe, you will spend 70% of the game mining ores (i.e. sit there and click on rocks) and transporting them, rinse and repeat ad nauseam. This aspect is not very well balanced and can make you feel burnt out and lose motivation to continue.
There are lots of players who think mining and hauling ores is fun, and who knows, maybe you will too. I am not one of them.

On that note there are of course mods to multiply resource rates by whatever factor you feel necessary. One of those can be applied directly to a dedicated server without the players needing to do anything.
