Why Padded Armour is not of Black Metal?!

I think having end game (for now) armour from simple iron is not very appealing especially after you already had silver and "passed the iron tire".

I really enjoyed the progression in Valheim, but this end game (for now) armour basically ruined it.

Before that you had a feeling of achieving something new, bronze age to iron age to fantasy armour.

I think that was a fantastic progression design. And now you are kinda downgraded from fantasy armour back to padded iron.

Moreover, (subjectively) iron is extremely painful and annoying to get. I find silver way more enjoyable to mine, good music, atop of the mountain etc.

P.S. Iron drop rate is 25%...and the place you get it is... not the snowy peaks with great music and Skyrim vibes, let's say.

Does anyone else feel like it ruins the "feeling of progression"?

Any news from the devs? Are they going to leave it as it is now?

Halfdan and Gunther this is not about the need for upgrade because the game is hard, it is about overall logic of progression as I mentioned several times above.

P.S. And...I just really hate to mine iron in the swamp

After my play through and now just in "building mode" i'm definitely "over it" in as far as mining iron (I've mined a lot) not to mention transporting it.

At this stage of my journey (all bosses killed on multiple seeds and mainly building) I still have to mine iron like everyone else but I world hop now with a clear conscience.

Yes, going back to Swamp to mine Iron for building is one thing, but going back there to mine it to craft what is the end game armour (for now) makes no sense from progression point of view (objectively) and ruins the feeling of progression (subjectively).

Basically you farm goblins in the Plains for dark iron anyway so armour should be made out of it, I hope they are going to replace the recepy or something.

I agree Tuxon. It certainly didn't fall in line with the rest of the game. We went with leather scrap gear, deer hide, then troll hide, bronze, iron, silver and when we started getting black metal scraps we find out we have to get more iron again.

I'm hoping that the reason is there are more armor sets coming ( and not yet implemented. (fingers crossed).

I always wondered why we didn't get Dark Iron Armor myself for the exact same reasons. Would look great too. Perhaps they intended to and haven't yet.

I have a feeling they're going to add a few more items eventually, including black metal armour and a bit more variety in the weapons, armour, and gear department. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up tweaking copper and iron harvesting a bit to make it slightly less of a grind as well, but that's just a hunch. I don't mind exploring the crypts, but smashing the junk piles takes just a little bit too long so I end up limiting my time in the crypts because of it. Same goes for copper mining. I'll mine 15 or so pieces then I often go do something else. Tin is almost too easy in comparison. I'm pretty sure they'll tweak the balance a bit as development continues.

This has been brought up before and I think its a valid point Also... Can we all agree that the blast furnace looks awesome and should ALSO be backwards compatible with iron/copper/tin? I sure would love replace the regular smelters with the blast furnace, for looks AND for the simple fact that both loading portals are on the same side.

I think the idea of padded using iron is so that we have a reason to go back to the swamp.
Also remember the game is not done.
Wolf is fine for the plains when you know what you are doing. You really won't need padded except for maybe the Yag fight and Mistlands when it comes.

Not sure what kind of stuff they may add with the mistlands. The fact they have metal you can find in the Ashlands leads me to believe that the mistlands won't have an ore to mine at all. Although they may add an item that makes using black metal for armor after an upgrade.
