HDD and SSD would make absolutely ZERO difference, the whole game is 1 GB, when it runs the whole games sits in your RAM.

Thank you for providing system specs for a change, so many don't. Monitor your GPU (graphics card) temperature as a first step, others are complaining about the game running hot, a hot card may be causing your freezing, or at least let's cross that off first.

Hey man, I exactly have the same issue.

I've just reported it in the game itself (the title of the report is "My game freezes in the main menu")

Described it well in this. But basically, same config as you man. exactly the same.

I've tried many resolutions, frequencies, graphics settings (very low to very high), nothing works.

I could not even write the full report in the game before it crashes. Had to write in text editor before copy/paste it.

Ok so I've tried to start a new game as fast as I could,I've reached the cinematic telling us the story and all.

Suddenly I've seen an "Unity" crash, did not have enough time to see more on that window that closed after a second. I dont know if the crash is related to the original bug of this post, but just in case...

In my Windows (W10) event observer, I can notice the error, here is the problem (I'm french so i'll do my best to translate) :

Seeing "d3d11.dll", I'm thinking about DirectX ? I don't know, just trying to guess things.

I recently had this issue on top of the usual unity crash that happened since day 2.

At least with the freezes I can log out to save my character (it's a little hard without seeing the menu) while the crash rollback everything

I'm using RTX 3080 FE, 5600X.

It happens less often when playing on medium graphics, but it's quite annoying having to do this to run the game "properly"

Ok so the Unity bug seems to be already existing here (https://valheimbugs.featureupvote.com/suggestions/158529/unitydll-crash-problem#comment241398), I did upvote it, bringing a bit more of informations.

However the orignal bug of this steam post does not seems to exist. I'll create it.

I have been playing the game for 2 or 3 consecutive hours yesterday by luck. Today I can't play more than 15min without crash and progression rollback :(

Same to me. I've lost our boat and all the stuff I've loaded into my inventory just before making the trip. (I woke up at my bed and had all my inventory, but not the last loaded stuff. The ship may be still is at the ocean.)
My buddys will hate me for that.

Same thing just happend to me.. Troll with tree attacked my base, was just gonna go and kill him when my game froze.. I alt+f4 and restarted. Came back in, troll had demolished my whole base while the game was frozen

Add to the bug report, thats how things get fixed.
Sorry to hear of your loss, but roll with it and make it part of your characters story :)

At the end its still EA so I don't blame it to much ;)

I've been experiencing this issue in multiple games recently, it jsut started happening out of nowhere. I've tried all the fixes i coudl find online, and nothing seems to work. For some reason I was able to play for a couple of hours earlier today without a crash, i have no idea why. By the looks of things, this issue doesn't appear to have anything to do with bad spec's, as people with 3090's have reported the same issue in some forums.

"multiple games" means the issue is in your system. Try monitoring your temps, and blow the dust and cat fur out of your system may work as a first step, just a guess tho. Goodluck.

This morning I couldn't play more than 15minutes.
This afternoon I played more than 2hours with no bug.

It may be related to saves while playing. When I do crash, I never see "Game saved (xx seconds).
