Medieval Engineers

Just bought this...liking the look so far (although a basic tutorial would be a help) but isn't this basically the same game as Medieval Engineers from a good few years ago? Dropped into the wild, find stones, find wood, build hut, build crafting table, complete quests, die?

Medieval Engineers is made by Keen; the makers of Space Engineers. I have 1,800 hours in Space Engineers, and let me tell you, most of the people who play SE do it only because it's the only real name in the "space vehicle designing" genre. We're all waiting eagerly for some other game to come and de-throne SE. Keen aren't exactly the worst dev out there but they're not great either. They had one big hit six years ago and they refuse to give us a sequel.

Empyron Galactic Survivial is similiar to SE, lacks some dynamic parts to use in building but very much the same.

Oof, don't get me started on Empyrion xp. From the unintentional PS1 graphics to the blueprint system to the hand-wavium way in which ammo and fuel can move through vehicles without needing any sort of piping or conveyor system.

There is a Crow.. with a giant yellow exclamation point that pops up and guides you along as you progress.

I think it's what Ian said. Their reviews consist of people upset that the game won't be receiving any updates, but not so much against what was currently available.

Medival Engineers is abandoned by the "devs" so Valheims future shines while ME is doomed.

what i saw so far is that medival engineers is more about construction then survival
while Valheim has static buiding but a way better survival part.

atm the development (including new biomes) is moving forward
its hard to tell where this road ends but valheim has more to offer imho

I think the negative reviews of Medieval Engineers was more due to the fact that the developers abandoned it rather than against the quality of the game.
It was a decent game when it first came out...and I had a weird feeling of deja vu when scrabbling round for sticks and stones in Valhelm..
No criticism of either game intended.

Just took a peek, medieval engineers actually looks better (better engine, architecture, etc)

What kind of enemies do you face in that game? I only saw humans.

I think a lot of games follow the "gather basic elements to build basic survival gear/tools" narrative. The tutorial here is really Huggin, and discovery. If you open the "shift" menu you can see a log of all the things the bird has told you. You will also find rune stones with lore and hints inscribed upon them. The bird explains how to find sustenance , how to built a hammer, workbench etc etc etc.

Part of the charm of Valheim is that it does not hold your hand. There is no dotted line leading to the next objective. And there are no quests aside from those you impose upon yourself given your surroundings/ ability/ curiousity.

The game that you mention looks a lot worse imo and was apparently abandoned by the creators.

There is a basic tutorial for Valheim and I think you can read past entries if you need a reminder. Otherwise the game is more about learning and exploration rather then having your hand held like some child.
