I have a modded dedicated server set up in which myself and 6 other people have been playing without major issue. One of the mods we're using is Magic Overhaul. The mod causes a lot of lag for us occasionally, but we have been able to play together.

All of our modding was done manually without a mod manager such as Vortex. It is extremely important that everyone has the same game files, configs, etc.

do you know whether a 'modded server' is required or can 2 friends simply install the same mods?

I'm not sure. With how dedicated servers work for Valheim, I would assume that 2 people with the same mods sure be fine.

so playing through thunderstone / overwolf with mods, a friend cannot see my instance and vice versa. If we install identical mods, can we then join each other's world?
