Early Mistlands; best new base location?
Is it worth spending time building a huge base in the Mistlands or should I just have small outposts and portals?
Background:
I have a small shack in a smallish-sized Mistlands, but it's not exactly safe. After each day there, I portal back to my plains base, which is pretty much raid-proof. I have unlocked some new weapons (Krom is brilliant) and about half of the things I can, but no magic yet, and no ballista. I found an extractor so I'm guessing I can unlock more soon. I've got a tiny farm. but that's often collateral damage in big fights.
Although I've noted the location of some resources, there, I think I need to find another Mistlands island to explore/farm.
My question is, being new to the Mistlands, can I build a raid-proof base in the Mistlands the same way I did in the plains? (Raised walls, with extra walls to avoid line of sight).

I've ended up with the conclusion that large mistlands base is optional at best; what's more efficient is a small farming/hunting outpost. Couple of things making a location for such a base worthy:
- persistent spawns of seekers, gjalls and rabbits around. You need all of the above for the top tier food and potions, when they come to you themselves is like a "passive income"
- a bit of flat land that can be cultivated to grow mushrooms
- two or three Yggdrasil roots nearby to drain sap
- an infested mine nearby to farm Royal Jelly (when latest announced patch lands, it will regenerate over time in mines)
- near the water to ease transportation of metals
Ideally the location would also be a clear spot never or just rarely engulfed by mist. On my server I found several large valleys where I don't need wisps at all.

I appropriated one of the abandoned dvergr towers for forward base. It has served me really well.
The citadel exterior (you'll know it when you see it) can also serve as a solid base thanks to the prefab black marble fortification and relevant location.
But my favorite place (which I've yet to complete) is a mountain peak on my friend's world which is immediately adjacent to the mistlands.
On the current public test version, they have reduced blunt damage of gjall (and increased fire damage). That means their attacks will be less destructive on fireproof structures even as they will regain their ability to fire two bile shots as single attack again.

you need at least one base with a farm and access to several of the pulsing roots on the ground. Both can be done pretty much everywhere. I put mine with water access for the biome fish as well.
there are premade buildings larger than any you have seen before that can be repaired. I just used one of those. Everything you need for a small outpost can be portal in.
there is a flying monster that does tremendous damage to your base. I don't care to make a real base there, but you can if you want to deal with it. If you raise walls and get out of your base and engage this monster when it comes, you will be fine.
