Chuck a portal closer to death spot, fortify that position with pallisades with a 1 m fascia board then see if you can pull the mosquitos into a neighbouring biome for fun with locals while you go snag your loot

Deathsquitos are glass cannons and usually die with one hit.
A finewood bow and fire arrows will do.
Approach carefully and just snipe them.
Since you are likely to be naked go for stamina food instead of health.
If they do manage to get close, dodgeroll.

Set up a portal somewhere close and safe.

They're not hard to kill with a bow if you can get one. I would also build a safe portal area as well as mentioned above in case you just anger them!

Yeah they hit like a truck but they die very easily. Take a good bow and arrows from what you have, and shoot them. If you're having trouble hitting them, wait until they start coming right at you, as then you have a direct shot. If you have a spare set of armor, shield and a weapon, parrying them also works well.

had this happen to me on my first experience with the plains. was near a swamp and mountain too. there was this little sliver of black forest though and i was able to set up a base. tried the naked run a few times, but the place was just a warzone so everything was always aggrod and as soon as i came anywhere near they'd spot me. eventually i was able to find a decent position btwn the mt and the swamp at the edge of the plain and shoot the skeeters camping my gear. then i threw up a portal near my many death markers, grabbed my stuff and went back to base to unload. last thing i did was make a new boat, pick up my portal and sail out to the cargo boxes to collect the last of my stuff before i gtfo'd.
still i think i had to take a day off during that adventure bc i was getting too mad. just slowly work your way back to where you died and be ready to kill anything there and/or portal out quick.

Haha I feel your pain! It's going to be a serious journey to get my stuff back but thats why I play this game. I'm a sado masochist.

Cool. I'm going to try a few more times solo and see what I can do. I'll hyu if I need it.

I've had a few challenging deaths in my current play through, which is no-maps, no-portal.

I got stuck in a death loop in the mountains where I could almost make it out of the mountains without freezing, but not quite. I finally beat a few walls of my shack to get enough wood to make a hammer (luckily I had 2 stones) and destroyed my bed and the fire for one hail Mary attempt at getting down.

The plan was to get about half way and drop the fire. Warm up, and go the rest of the way. If I died, at least I would be out of the mountain and at spawn. I got half way down, dropped the fire, and proceeded to walk into it!

Fortunately my world has a huge spawn island, so I was able to make my way through multiple temporary bases and get back to my ship at the bottom of the island. I was able to use my ship to sail to my (at the time) main base, which was just across a channel, make some frost resist mead, and get my stuff back.

After that, in the swamps, I got over confident and died to a 2* draugr, but it was just after getting back from another adventure of getting lost, which is a long story... :-)

I hadn't set my spawn at my swamp base, so I ended up almost back at world spawn. I had to run for a couple of days through black forest in my underwear before I got back to my ship, which was near my swamp base. I sailed across, and was able to put on some old bronze armor and eventually, get my stuff back from the 2*.

Those are some of the best parts of the game IMO. If everything was smooth sailing, the game would be much more boring.

Knifes work great for Bats and Mosquitoes bow is ok but the knife works better.
