To the Devs - Regarding DLC - "Thank you"

I recently just played V Rising (another survival sandbox), which launched with two paid DLCs. One of those DLCs had a ton of cosmetic items in the game (statues, furniture, architecture, etc. for your castle). This made me think about your "Hearth and Home" update. You did not make us pay for that. You gave it to us for free as part of the development of your game. You could have gated it behind a DLC like V-rising did, but you didn't.

It simply occurred to me how awesome you guys are and I wanted to extend a sincere and hearty "Thank you!" for what you guys do. I know there may be DLC in the future for Valheim, and I would be happy to pay it, but thank you for not gating the building items of Hearth and Home behind a paywall.

Sincerely,

Jon

I've been talking to devs daily while they're working hard and pushing out updates quickly and consistently.
I don't really mind waiting, I'm not impatient but claiming they're such great devs when their output has been like this? This just sets a bad precedent and is quite the statement considering devs that actually work hard putting out content.

I'd welcome them spending no time on being silly, but I sure hope that's not been the case yet. Otherwise that's quite a bad look for their development capabilities.

Is that so? Does making a good foundation for a game with super slow updates make for a good dev team now? NMS at least had some more player interaction than dropping a small post every half year.
Like talking to some devs that have been working really hard and kept in constant exchange with their community, that statement is fairly insulting.

I hope that other studios don't learn from these guys and think cancelling their update plans twice and just drip feeding content after crazy profits is okay.

We get that you're impatient with updates but:

1. Devs do keep in contact with the community not just in fireside chat vids but other sources too. Just yesterday they showed off something one of the devs was working on on twitter even.

2. Saying their communication is only once every sixth months is an intentionally, absurd exaggeration on your part or just intentional shenanigans.

3. If you're expectations are that the 10 devs for this game should be daily responding to posts like yours or such, I think most who support this game would agree that their time is much better spend not being so silly.

Devs have said they'll never charge for dlcs if I remember correctly so you've no worry there.

As for V Rising, there were more than a few things that was of concern about the project and the dlc at EA start was just one of many. That's not to say that I may not get game. Its on my wait and see 6 months to 1 year list at the moment. And after watching streams of play too, I feel that's been a good choice to do.

I am pretty stoked about that also. Val is a mostly complete game, I'd say. In it's current and past states maybe a bit lackluster. For the most part the functional mechanics are done.
I would not have been disappointed for the 15-20 bucks I paid(I think~13?). It wouldn't have felt like a complete game though. On that fact I can't really 'complain'. I'm pretty happy with it, even after the changes to landforming.
But the content doesn't quite fill the vast amount of space we have, which for me atm is not an issue. Since I've not progressed far in-game. I've still not confronted Elder, and have only begun to be more able to safely navigate the realm. Only the high tier mobs need worry me now.
With the addition of the Frost Caves and soon Mistlands, it likely indeed will feel a bit more full. I would like to see a great deal more effort on polish.
A series of these games would only get better and better. Most of the fundamental concepts have been ironed and translated to digital. Tweaking is still needed, as more components come on-line. I am hoping they can devise innovative tools for us to better utilize all of the capabilities the program offers.
And for me at least. With the two more biomes left to implement, and more creatures to add to the line-up. Seeing the final tally of the flora and fauna, the POI's and the misc. tidbits is what I am waiting on. We will have a fair sized catalog to interact with but will we have the player capabilities to keep up with all the vast complex information. And what is the state of the final product how will it be different or better than what we are working with now.
