Actually that's twice wrong. Originally aether refers to the heavens, basically everything in our universe that's not another element like earth, water and fire. It's the sky essentially, it's light, space, air pressure etc. Its basically Aether...which is what everything is made up of in the real world. This originates from Ancient Meta Physics.
Eitr on the other hand comes from the concept of primordial ooze and poison. It's the origin of the jotnar and snakes/dragons. It's a manifestation of primordial matter of Ginnungagap where fire and ice meet. It's the origin of matter from which the world is later made.
It's strongly linked to the concept of fertile soil which to the Norse meant soil filled with rainworms. Worms and snakes were the same thing to them, beings directly born from fertile primal matter. But like all good things, to much will kill you.
Etymologically this has no connection with Aether. The element of Earth is linked to Eitr while it's borderline the opposite of aether.

This, it's related to a bunch of modern Germanic words."Eit" as in "eight" Does anyone know how Eitr is physically said????
"r" should be the actual, hard, fully pronounced r, and not like the muffled, "paralyzed tongue" shame that is english r.

greeks said Aether = Ai or Ay ther which was the fluid of the air or something magical like that but not rain/water, like plasma of the air.
however, other cultures pronounce it differently, so Aether would be Eyetear in many other countries
its really just a matter of history, culture and approved linguistics... tomato or tomato.

Eater. Like a big eater or someone with a big appetite.
One of Odin's spells in GoW Ragnarok has the word eitr in it and that's how he pronounces it. The all-father knows best

Here is the devs giving a preview of the content to Rock Paper Shotgun. They mention eitr at around 4:30. Hm, is this a dev approved pronounced word?

Like Gjall, there are probably more than one technically correct pronunciations.
Old Norse would have pronounced Gjall G-YALL where modern Icelandic?) pronounces it YALL
