I just lost everything
Was killed and quit game before I respawned and went to go back to where I was killed and nothing. I had 34 piece of iron ore on me plus bronze armor, Iron mace, Iron pickaxe and a lot of other things. I know there's nothing that anyone can do. I just want sympathy

Valheim is def the kind of game that slaps you down for taking risks or being unprepared.
Might explain why the BRS became a thing.

I recently lost my stuff in plains biome, from 2 deathsquitos and a few fulings (it was a spear thrower that got me in the back). Going back in there naked is rough. I had to make do with a level 1 stone axe; couldn't upgrade it because I had no mats for workbench upgrades. Luckily it wasn't that far from a smallish patch of blackforest, which was a safer place to be (but still not safe). I managed to grab some cloudberries while flashing naked through swamp near my last spawn point (which was adjacent to another stretch of plains), dodging draugr, skeles, blobs, leeches, and abominations. After several tries I made it up to mistlands, which was a truly safe place due to its emptiness. But there were no resources there (it was blank ground).
My first attempt to build a recovery basecamp failed since I built it too near that blackforest patch and the greys heard me and came for me... :\ Learned that lesson and manage to run all the way back again, deconstruct it, and reconstruct it much farther away from the border. After that it was playing chicken with the greys, snatching wood here and there to get enough to cover a bed with a roof to set a new spawn point, and the workbench so I could use it for repairs... or whatever. And a box so I could leave some things behind and safe instead of losing them on my corpse every time... After that, deaths didn't require such a long dangerous run.
I was sneaking through the plains at one point and was like two feet from my treasured gear... I guess I got excited because I stopped paying attention to stamina. It ran out and my character stood up... and immediately got smashed by a squito :( A few more tries... I noticed some red shrooms in blackforest on the way to plains where my tombstone was. That plus my dwindling cloudberry supply gave me more of a hp/sta boost. When I finally got my stuff, I managed to survive two hits by a deathsquito while naked somehow. You can one-shot 'squitos with just about anything.. but not a level one stone axe! I think I got lucky with the timing of some of my shots. I got to my tombstone and grabbed what I could carry... which was not everything, but got my armor and a better weapon and shield. Ran off some fulings and put it on.. went back and tried to finish off the rest without dying again so I could get the rest of my tombstone. Was still rough and I had to use a health potion (another thing I'd luckily looted).
Man it's good to have your gear back... Since I was near the edge of the map anyway, I decided to have a look toward the edge. Fell over and lost it all again! :( And my boat and its supplies besides. I did not have enough warning about that, and couldn't turn in time...
This time, I used the console to get my tombstone. I could tell it would have been impossible to recover that gear otherwise. Felt like I got a little cheated there; couldn't Hugin have said something?? I accepted the loss of my boat and its supplies though, and only recovered my tombstone. Now I know... /sigh.
And you only lost some stuff in blackforest? Maaan... you ain't seen nothing yet! :-P

rage quitting is not an obligation.
i've lost my stuff in the black forest and i need to go back to get it all, but i made sure i spawned first before quitting. at the time it was getting very late so i can get to it today. I'm gonna have to run suicide into the forest to collect my gear and get out just as fast as possible. I was fighting a skeleton warrior and archer, with combined hits they overwhelmed me with successive and quick blows that kept me out of it. All just part of the experience.
now if my progress was fully saved is another matter, the game has crashed twice of me already and although i didn't lose much progress on either one, i can no longer trust this game will give me the benefit of the doubt going forward where progress is concerned.

I feel your pain man. Been there. I lost a characters gear who was I think at fully upgraded silver armor the same way. Actually it was totally my fault for shutting down my server before the next autosave, but at that point me and my brother were somewhere around Day 900 (currently at Day 1200+, we stopped there mainly because our base became so big that my FPS tanks to like 17fps within our town, and that's on high end hardware).
Anyways, don't let it stop you from jumping back in

I know that feeling. I'm trying to recover my stuff from the Plains across the map from my house (with no portals). I was exploring via sail and a mosquito instakilled me in my bote. Was killed and quit game before I respawned and went to go back to where I was killed and nothing. I had 34 piece of iron ore on me plus bronze armor, Iron mace, Iron pickaxe and a lot of other things. I know there's nothing that anyone can do. I just want sympathy
And my second attempt with a SECOND bote, now there are 5 or 6 mosquitos guarding my first death. I ate enough health food to survive the first sting, but not the next 4.

After making my base by the southern shore, i made a karve and took off north following the shore with the intent on dropping 2 portals while mapping out the landmass my base was on.
Turns out, after dropping making those 2 portals, the land mass i made my base on the southern tip on is, vertically, 1/3 the entire map! Going by what the shore looks like, it more or less swamps and plains.
I successfully circumnavigated the entire landmass, despite the wind being against me more than half the time. I lucked out on only encountering 2 leviathans, one not noticing me, the other chased me for a short time but i thankfully had the wind with me.
After mining 5 stacks of iron from the latest portal i made from that trip, i stored it in a chest under the bench next to said portal and ported home. Took the karve with the intent to reach that iron and bring it home.
The wind was against me almost the whole time. I apparently was too close to the shore because a deathsquito took interest. It made 2 successful attacks on my boat before it came at me and, thankfully and with patience, 3rd times the charm and i 1-shot it.
Unfortunately, right before reaching the first of the 2 portals i dropped, a leviathan caught me and destroyed my boat I was really close to shore but it attacked me 2 times before i was out of its reach.
To put a sour cherry on this fecal sundae(good band name), my stamina was shot and i was taking even more damage. The 'shore' was rocky outcropping that was just out of jumping distance. i ended up dying right next to the shore.
After a painfully and scary trip back with a longboat, i ended up recovering both the stored iron and my corpse, despite getting heavily raided by a variety of grey dwarves(every single type) and a single fuling which was patrolling my corpse.
Never give up, if you're stubborn enough, you CAN AND WILL do it.

I'm always looking for reasons to start anew.
That said... I have a world with plenty of iron ingots if you want some.

I thought the same once, when I died by wolves. I didn't cheat I just accepted my loss. One day, many hours later, I was wondering those mountains again and found my now useless bronze armor. Your graves don't disappear, it just might not be where you think it is exactly.

I once died in the swamp of two Draugr spawners with all my equipment. I hadn't seen a chance to get my things back. But I died there a few more times and with each death I was able to move my equipment a little further away from the spawner until I was still alive. It took maybe an hour of play, but I got it all back ... just a few skill points were gone.

losing everything is not as bad as it sounds, I always made two sets of everything for the occasion. But some tips for future exploration:
-Sail naked with food and the stuff to make a portal to connect to an unconnected portal at your base. If you die at sea your just out the boat. (maybe a pick for harvesting barnacles..)
-Never open doors in dungeons first, use a greathammer to knock... then if you find enemies are on the other side knock some more.
-If you get into a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ situation just run, its better to have your stuff away from mob spawns, you might even get away.
-Use double ring mining in the mountains, you can jump but monsters can't.make two concentric pits around your mining spot and most things will fall in the outer ring if it gets pushed in.
-If you have to corpse run make sure your eating great food for better stamina and health. I have general walking around or hunting near my base food, good food for sailing, and great food for corpse runs and boss fights. (often boss fights are also corpse runs.
-Don't feel you need to take on bosses in frontal combat. The hoe and pick are your friend, it might seem a bit dodgy to use a greathammer through an earthen wall to kill a boss but it has more tools than you so use more of your tools. Your weapons are not your only tools in a boss fight. They are designed to be multiplayer bosses with spawn points nearby.

Well losing everything is a pain especially when a one-hit wonder is guarding the gravestone. BTW it would be nice if those gravestones showed up on a compass. Better than constantly flipping to the map.

Take the red pill. Enter console commands, become God like, fly there, slay everything with just your fists, fly back to base. But will you be able to stop yourself doing the same every time you get into trouble, rendering the game meaningless....

All hope might not be lost. Do you have the death marker on your map? If yes, what kind of an area did you die in? The tombstone might have clipped into something; I've read at least a couple stories about that having happened to people.
