New Start After Hearth & Home Update?

The new Hearth & Home update comes out on Thursday.
The devs say you don't have to restart the game, but you'll get a better experience if you do.

Very general question for the Valheim communtiy:
Do you plan on starting a new world?
If so, will you go with a completely new start or use your materials from your current build in a new world?

I'm torn. I FINALLY got to the plains (4 different plains on different islands). I think I'm ok w. starting a new world seed. I'd love to rebuild all my villages now that I kind of know what I'm doing. BUT the thought of having to go thru all that resource gathering from the start, is not very appealing.

I'm probably going to random seed a new world and use my existing character but take him there naked. Best of both worlds...keep characters personal skill progression but start fresh with nothing else on a new world to explore the update from the start.

I'll start a new world. I found a couple of seeds that are interesting (geographically) to me, but i'll use some resources from the old world to skip parts of the grind (mainly mining)

From the steam page, Valheim -> Porperties: -console
Then in game: F5, but with my computer had to do Fn - F5: devcommands
then resetmap.
I just tried on one of my worlds and everything disappered except the markers I had put, and I put alot of markers down so I have a good idea of where things are, just no more map.
Im not really into the idea personally of starting the game over again, every time there is a new milshake, and window treatment. And if there is going to be update eventually to all the biomes, Mistlands, Ashlands, Ocean, Deep North, etc I personally would like to keep going and explore the stuff as it comes along. Again, personally, I'd like it if more content is just added and you can discover it as you go without breaking your world, and I bet they'll figure something out

Im going to use the console commands to hide my map. Because I found a world that I really like with a permanent base thats on a sliver of Meadows with water access, a bunch of berries, flanked by a huge swamp on one side, plains on another, and forest and mountain close by.

A lot of the update is going to change how progression feels with new and adjusted food at a minimum... hard to say what else may be impacted as well.

With that in mind I plan to start a new world with a new character or I won't really be able to tell the difference in the changes if I am already "progressed".

I have a bunch of old worlds I can go back to later to "update" them with new stuff, but it just makes sense to me if I want to experience fully the new stuff properly to do it with a new world and character.

The thing is the Valheim worlds are so large its unlikely you explored even half the map (unless you intentionally went out of your way to do so) so you could easily get the new resources sailing to parts of the world you haven't been. Though this is speaking from a personal world rather than a server or community one.

About the "hiding map" command, wouldn't that wipe player placed objects though?

The update touches almost everything balancing-wise. It's not only about discovering the unexplored area, but also the new progression experience and when the new items get unlocked.
If you want to avoid rushing the content, a fresh start is probably a longer and intense experience.
But I also assume, it won't be the last of these kind of updates, where a fresh start would be beneficial.

Why not use the same toon on a new world? You'll be stuck ferrying only what can fit in your inventory per log in "trip" but you won't be starting entirely from scratch. Bring your chests full of resources with you.

The more I think about it, the more I think I'll start a new character and new seed, but keep all the stuff I spent ages stockpiling for this update. All the resources are coming w. me to my new world. Thanks for all the input!

Just realized that i will lose my 2 Star Boars (should be easy to replace) and 2 Star Wolf armies (not so easy to replace)...

I haven't even had my first Boss battle yet. I've only owned the game for a week and have about 20 hours into about 2 dozen seeds. This reminds me of Beta testing Minecraft back when. I start over completely, repeatedly. Using a seed that I like for an initial build. I know the general beginning area and what I'm looking for as far as resources. Beyond that, since there is always a lot of balancing going on with initial updates: starting over clean is more about acclimatization to the : A.I. , environmental and mechanical changes. I'm still working with the leveling and building up mechanic in Terra forming and structural integrity of Beech being used as the initial building material instead of Hemlock, I guess. and just.. Idk, I get frustrated with the system even though I love the concept. I'm a builder by trade and this is "The Concept of a Survival Game" I've been dreaming of since Day 1 Minecraft Beta. Literally. Just start over frAsh, every time. That's how it's meant to be. Murphy Says.

Our server is planning on resetting all boss flags, and a good amount of us are going to start new characters, but the world and buildings will remain.

No, and I don't think I will play it.
I wait for more updates and maybe 1 year later I will start a new world.
I don't think there will be enough content in this update for a full new start.
