Mistlands without Yagluth

I've been exploring Mistlands even though I haven't summoned Yagluth yet. What is it I won't be able to do? The only thing I can find is that I can't build the wisp fountain, but are there other recipes I'll be missing, etc?

Are the raised walls around the area just to prevent wandering mobs from joining in?

Yea I didn't want to deal with fulings or lox + I had a nearby tar pit that attracted some of the tar blobs at some point as well when I was making the terrain changes.

I have a base in every biome. My main base is in the plains. I hardly spend any time in the meadows.

I had 1 seeker event and only 1 got inside my compound because I popped my head up at the walls and it flew over into the base.

I use raised earth walls with the hoe and then put stone / marble on the top to make it somewhat nicer looking.

This was my Yagluth fight arena. Also invited a random person who wanted his drop / trophy but was on a server that wasn't yet ready to kill him.

I know I'll have to eventually, just wondering how much trouble procrastinating is causing me.

I just used the hoe to enclose Yag's arena with earthen walls and then made a few earthen pillars in 2 groups near each other to deal with 1 of his attacks and lessening his other attack.

Yag's power is good against certain ncps in Mistlands that you will have to interact with in some fashion for progression. Beyond that like other's stated it is just the wisp which makes stumbling around usually blindly in the Mistlands just stumbling around.

Killing Yagluth will enable Mistland events until the Mistland boss is killed.

edit: It's possible to spot soldiers stomping around in the mist and if you are attacked by 3 seekers (usually 1 is starred) that will indicate that an Infested Mine may be nearby. Just don't run around at night.

You can cheese Yagluth pushing yourself into the alter from below using the hoe, although it seems like it's more difficult now.

The last time I tried that, it seemed like he couldn't attack you in the alter, but I tried it once after the ML update, and it took some effort finding a spot where I wouldn't get hit, but could still hit him.

I also find the boss fights tedious. It can be fun to work on strategies and such, and the first time or two is exciting, but it gets to be just a hoop that you have to jump through.

I think the Mistwalker sword uses wisps. You also won't get those permanent blue wisp torches. And of course won't get the equipped wisp list that lets you see a little bit further than melee range.

SEE. The yag item clears the fog in about a 5-10 M radius. Its not much, but its more than 0. The other recipe that matters is the light that you can make after building the fountain.
The biggest risk is falling to your death off a cliff or being unable to see gjall well enough to shoot their weak spot.

You can see/fight the Gjall just fine without the wisplight. I only use the mistwalker to clear the mist, which, of course, doesn't do anything when I have my bow equipped, and I don't have a problem seeing a Gjall, especially when they're right over my head! :-)

You can't even see the Gjall "just fine" WITH the wisplight. Much less without it. Now there are certain parts of the Mistlands that don't have much mist, but most of it does. Not killing Yagluth first is just asking to have a terrible experience in the Mistlands. Besides, if you can't kill that guy, you have no business in the ML. Is it possible? I'm sure it is. I'm sure it's possible to beat the Queen naked with only wood arrows and a club and using berries for food. I'd advise against trying it though.

Yagluth just gives wisps, he's absolutely unnecessary just go into infested mines and get the higher tier loot, the mist isn't everywhere anyway and the dungeons typically have wisp lights.

I guess we can quibble about the definition of "just fine" in this case, but with or without the wisplight is essentially the same, since the range of the wisplight is very short. Unless it's right on top of you, you either shoot at the red glow, or you jump out of the mist. In any case, that's how I fight them, so it is possible.

The question of Yag is not if you can beat Yag, but if you want to beat Yag. Some of us want more of a challenge, so we're wondering if exploring ML without beating Yag is reasonable.

I suspect I'm going to do another no-bosses run in the near future to see how far I can get now that ML is out.
