Does terraforming still eventually ruin your FPS?

Back on launch, terraforming used to destroy your FPS after a while, no matter what you did. Did they ever fix that? Or is still the case of "Whatever you do, don't terraform if you like having FPS still by the mid-game."

Make sure to force the game in steam to run the game in full screen. -window-mode exclusive -screen-fullscreen

Copy and paste that into the properties of the launch command.

You will get at the very least a 30% increase in stability and FPS.

I've raised land out of the sea, cut a harbour into a land area, flattened a large area to build a town and re-shaped the coastline on a fair sized island, without any issues.

Wrong, depending on your hardware it influences a lot. Fighting bosses at 60 fps here, my base on the other hand, 40 fps.

Nope, not wrong. Terrain does not impact frame rates. Building however, does. If you build something it adds to the number of instances the game is handling, which can be seen by pressing F2. Changing terrain used to generate new instances for each modification, but now does not as it now removes any historic data, and only uses the current layout data for the terrain. So yes, your FPS will drop in your base, but not because of the terrain. It's because of what you've built on top of that terrain.
The building system will still have a big impact on frame rates, especially with larger builds, but the OP was asking specifically about terrain, which is all I covered in my original reply. Terrain and building are two different things.

Yup. Lots of building will kill your FPS. It's mostly what I do so I notice. Currently it drops down to 20fps for me in my biggest build. Swings and roundabouts.

At launch, the game was tracking and processing every single modification to land. This is why it tanked frame rate so quickly. Game was patched around May of last year or so to no longer do that and just keep track of default and current status. Terraforming can still have an impact on FPS, but now it requires a rather massive project for it to be noticeable.

Are there still performance issues from altering terrain?
I'm starting a server with friends for mistlands and I want to gauge how strict I should be with telling people not to alter terrain in the village square. Have you noticed big slowdown recently after making terrain alterations with the hoe or pickaxe?

Depends on your rig but the more you terraform the more stress you put on your FPS.

So they haven't fixed it yet, eh? Guess I'll warn my friends not to terraform on the server. That used to quickly drive a server into the ground, and there was no way to fix it. Once the ground had been shoveled or what have you, it just stayed sucking FPS forever, even if you put it back to the way it was.
