Isn't permittedlist.txt a whitelist?

This game doesn't even have whitelists yet even though it's designed around private parties. I highly doubt anything like first party PaaS is coming. The dedicated server can run on very mediocre hardware anyway, it would be like offering an attendant to pump your gas/petrol for you for the low fee of only an extra dollar/25c for every gallon/liter. May as well just do it yourself.

technically third party is not the only option as you can setup your own server instance too

I don't see a company this small suddenly deciding to start hosting servers. I'm willing to almost guarantee that dedicated servers will stay the way they are, either you rent one or host your own with your own hardware.

For me this is fine. Having rented and admined a server for a good while after launch it's a well working system as long as the service one is renting their server from is up to the task.

From what I'm aware adding dedicated servers is complicated, more so when things are planned to change in the future. If there going to do this I'd rather they actually finish the game first before trying to tactile dedicated servers. They really aren't as easy to make as people make them seem, and they can easily be broken with content updates something the devs for this game have already announced there will be a lot of.
