being stupid usually, or eating common food while doing things in even slightly dangerous areas....aka being stupid. I rarely feel like a death in the game was unfair....with the exception of the Plains boss. OP meteors FTW

ouch yeah, we were exploring for more iron, and found a good swamp while on a boat (had swamp+ level gear) and suddenly hit Mistlands. Luckily did not have your experience! Dying on a boat is the suck.

Oh, a bunch of wrong aggros, too many enemies XD Recentrly, I was too close to the Eitr Refinery, w/o food and armor... yeah, I move it far away.

My friend abandoned me while getting back to another biome to gatter some items. I was distracted trying to build a bed and a greydwarf with a star killed me.

Running through the plains. Top a hill at full speed and trip into a tar pit. Five growths sling poisonous tar at me in a hellish bukkake.
I learned to slow it down if I can't see where I'm running. Also, I lead lox to the tar pits and let them fight it out.

How did I die? Which time? The first time I entered a new biome the tougher monsters usually killed me very early on because I hadn't yet figured out how they attack and because I was still in gear that was suitable for the previous biome because I hadn't yet gotten any resources specific to the new biome to make the better gear required to survive the newly entered biome. Kind of a catch 22 in that respect. You had to survive the biome to be able to get the resources required to survive the biome.

If i remember right my death history (main character) was something like this:
1. death: tree
2. death: troll
3. death: * elite draugr
4. death: ** wolf
5. death: ** wolf (same one as before)
6. death: deathquito
7. death: yagluth

The reason for this post is those arguments about game mechanics.
Those about relevancy of skills, and losing those by dying, as well as discussions about hitboxes

The second time I saw a troll I got it to 5% health with arrows. I had full health and a tower shield available and so I decided to save an arrow and take it out with an axe. Fatal mistake. It just smashed me into pulp in a single attack. It gave no fs about my tower shield. That was just the top bun of the viking sandwich it wanted.

Lesson learned. Stick to arrows and running. Yes running is always a good idea with trolls. XD

The last time I died was because I parked myself in front of the Eitr Refinery so I could collect Eitr while AFK but forgot to make sure my food buffs would last long enough and that I wasn't carrying too much weight to auto pick them up. Those things apply the poison debuff to you if you get hit by the sparks they emmit. Just FYI.

Went into my first ever burial chamber and instantly got swamped by 6-8 skeletons in the entrance room, one of them a two star. I lasted about 4 seconds.
I turned god mode on to see if there was anything I could have done differently and I got staggered so constantly that I could only barely kill the skeletons, even though I was invulnerable.

I think the only thing I learned is that the difficulty curve of this game can be rather uneven and unpredictable.

For me the last time really effed up was when I was mining for silver. Heard the howl and looked around, nothing. Continued mining happily until pair of wolves came in. Was stunlocked before could get any weapon.

Damn, I hate wolves
